I like my Galaxy S6. A coworker has the S6 Edge and likes it a lot, too.
If this is your first smart phone, it really doesn’t matter any more. They are now toasters. Either will do what you need.
Android is a little more flexibe and Apple is a little more stream lined but there is not a lot of difference. For that matter, there isn’t a huge difference between a 200 dolar phone and a 800 dolar phone any more.
Android has severe security issues. You’re better off with an iPhone, and that’s coming from a Windows phone user.
I bought an s6 when they first came out hoping to break Apple habit. (Didn’t like the CEO a running his mouth about state politics. ) It was a great looking phone and I had high hopes. Ended up being the worst phone I have ever owned!!! Apps would shut off on their own for no apparent reason. Would not hold a streaming talk show (listen in car for clear signal of am stations). Would not reliably pair with car stereo. Was new to Android and I’m sure others more familiar with the system could better navigate but it seemed like you needed 2 or 3 apps to do what apple could do with 1. Worst of all was the battery life! I am not a heavy user (especially compared to my kids), but I could only get half a days use on a full charge! Had to buy a $100 battery case just to make it through a single day!!! I am back to Apple now and have the iPhone 6s Plus. Easily the best phone I have ever owned!!! It just works, period. And I get at least 2 days (often more) from a full charge. The only advantage the s6 had was the camera. Better pics than iPhone, which is saying something!
If you can wait I would wait and see about the new Samsung Galaxy s7 that will be coming out very soon..also in March is when Apple will have its event which they will most likely show off a new iPhone
They’re all “the same” (and totally different). My house has had 5 apple phones, 3 lg and 2 samsung phones, 2 apple tablets, 1 samsung tablets, a few nokia phones and many others (motorola, palm, etc going back 18 years). We always get “last year’s model” cheap and I’ve been programming “next year’s model” for my job (so I have access to everything).
My personal phone is usually the best model from 2 years ago. I currently have a 3 year old lumia (windows device) as a phone since i love the small size. and an Lg g2 as a camera (since it takes the best pictures for me). My lg is freedompop (free text/voice. $0/month for what I need). A google voice # forwards to both phones so I can take either the small or camera phone with me anywhere. My phones were $60, and $99. I own them unlocked and have no contacts for $35/month for both. One at&t the other sprint so when I I travel I can use either network
So, what’s important to you? Calls? Internet? Camera? Storage? Cost? Size? I’d get a 1-2 year old model that does whatever you want best (or 2 different phones if you have 2 important features). And a no-contact provider that resells at&t/sprint/t-mobile/etc if cost matters.
Through a quirk related to getting a new job, I currently have both. They’re pretty similar, so if there’s a big price differential I’d probably use that to make the decision. I do like the S6 a bit better, probably because of the screen size and it’s a bit easier to zoom in and out of things, but I will also say that the 6s is a bit more stable in terms of the software, etc.
What do you want to do with it.
I use mine for billing and time tracking. I need a good calendar synch. I listen to audio books. I use it with my fit bit.
All of those things are easy with Apple.
If you can give us an idea of other-than-phone apps...it would be helpful.
Don't like a lot of things he does with his mouth and he was doing them (boasting about them anyway) just as my contract was up---I went with Samsung.
Oh I am so with you on Tracfone! It’s not the same as a top line phone but Mrs p6 and I switched last year. Both phones are Samsung 766c IIRC and we get triple all, data and text for life.neither of us use them much for data but when we do it’s WiFi so it costs nothing.
Of the 1250talk minutes each casme with Mrs p6 still has 700 and I am at 1100. She uses hers at work to get Pandora or Xfinity content but again over wifi.
The phones also have Bluetooth and use Android 4.3 KitKat. We might get new phones only because we would like lollipop or marshmallow.
No monthly charges like our old phones makes us very happy!
Get a cheap flip phone.
Very happy with my Moto X. Almost no bloatware and I bought it straight from Motorola on their website where I chose colors, finishes, and doubled the memory to 32gig all for $125. (thru Verizon)
My wife uses about 500 minutes a year and I use less than that. I just added two years to hers for $150. When you are adding 1 year for a $100 they give you an option to add a second year for $50 so I did.
Cell phones are a necessity these days, but that doesn’t mean you have to be talking on them all the time.
I'm a little bit of both but Apple Music tilts the balance for me to Apple iPhone. I have a massive music collection and Apple allows me to store it in the cloud and listen to it from just about any device for about $10/month.

I got Samsung for $20, plus a $20 month reduction in my Verizon bill a few months ago...look for deals...if you’ve never had a smart phone you likely don’t need the “latest”
We support both Apple products and Android products in our practice. We carry Android products for ourselves. Android products are easier to integrate into the business environment. Typically the Android products cost less.
Androids are extensively integrated with Google and Amazon. Apple is extensively integrated with iTunes.
Talk to other users. See how they use their devices and try to figure out what suits you.
Yes. I have S3. Hate everything over a 5. They changed the 6 up and the note. Awful.
Better with a 5 if you can find one.
I love my IPhone 6s Plus...it takes a little time getting used to a bigger phone that sometimes takes 2 hands to hold. The Galaxy has a little bit of a clearer screen....visual clarity is amazing. The IPhone’s features and the way things work through every application is just amazing, and that’s why I like it better.
