VANITY: Free Republic Browser Issue
me | 1/23/2016 | georgiegirl

Please help. I keep hearing folks on Free Republic talk about sidebars and other features, which for the life of me, I was not seeing. I use Chrome. I got the idea to go to Internet Explorer, and pulled up Freerepublic. Sure enough, I can see all the sidebars. Does this mean I have to switch over to IE to properly view FreeRepublic? I can't stand IE and realy prefer Chrome. Thanks for any input.

Just looked in Chrome, and the sidebars showed up for me. (I usually use Firefox, but have 4 different browsers for different purposes).

It’s probably your settings in Chrome, and not the browser itself.

I don’t see much difference between giving all of my personal information to Google, and giving all of my personal information to M$.

I can’t stand IE either - might want to try Firefox - I get the sidebars with it.

You may need to set the parameters in the ‘settings’ screen on FR to get the sidebar, etc., to show in Chrome.

I use an IE based tabbed browser, occasionally Firefox based browsers, and Chrome based. The sidebars show up in all of them.

Go here and select manage blocks and set up which ones you want, #, etc.

Shows up just fine on Firefox. And no matter what you run, EVERYTHING ends up going through IE whether you like it or not. I never use it and everymoring when I run the clean up on the puter, IE has a whold bunch of stuff that gets cleaned regardless of the fact that I never even opened it. But, you do get the sidebars with firefox. (I’m sure someone will contradict/correct me and advise a different solution. LOL!)

Does ANYONE know how to freep on an iPhone? I have not found a browser where I can make the text large enough to read, keep the post I’m reading visible from left to right, and be able to actually SEE what I am typing if I post.

Safari, chrome, none that I’ve tried seem to work. I hate freeping on my phone. How do other people do it?

I use an iPhone 6 plus held sideways, for FR. Smaller iPhones would not work well.

Ironically, almost anytime there is a vanity like this, someone will ask if you are logged in. Before you make the changes, if you log in on your IE the sidebars will disappear.

I have my sidebars at the top and bottom for ease of reading on my phone.

Sidebars?

You’ll have to talk to the bartender about that. The only bar I have is way at the back of the house. But, since I’ve taught Spot to bring me beer...I’m cool with it.

Have you checked your FR Preferences. Go to My Page Layout in Preferences, and see what the various options are set at. I have all the side bars disabled because I don’t want them.

Sounds like you need a 10 inch screen on a smartphone, at least..

Would that make it a tablet phone?

Maybe apple will come out with the IPud.. Or the IBlackHole

Viva LA FReepathon!!!
