Limbaugh: ‘Nationalism And Populism Have Overtaken Conservatism’ In GOP [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 1-20-2016 | CHRISTIAN DATOC

Posted on 01/20/2016 11:40:34 AM PST by Citizen Zed

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that Trump's popularity is evidence that "nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism" in the Republican Party

"The Trump triumph - the Trump coalition - is exposing the fact that it isn't conservative orthodoxy, or conservatism or any of the hard work of the conservative elite," explained Limbaugh, "that is causing people to be conservative."

LIMBAUGH: It's something really simple... They're fed up with the modern day Democratic Party... The Republican Party establishment does not understand this. They do not know who their conservative voters are. They've over-estimated their conservatism... They're not liberals. They're not Democrat. Many of them do not want to be thought of as conservatives for a host of reasons. So somebody who comes along and is able to convey that he or she understands why they're angry and furthermore, is going to do everything to fix it, is going to own them. What's happening here is that 'nationalism' - dirty word, ooh people hate it - and 'populism' - even dirtier word. Nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism in terms of appeal.

He is slowly coming to the realization that what he's been preaching about people to the right of center are not orthodox conservatives. They are populists.

What he will have to come to grips with is if he's dismayed Trump has hung on this long and may capture the republican nomination, that he bears a lot of the responsibility for not calling Trump a populist. It was fun while Trump kept Bush, Christy and others from achieving the nomination. But I think he's realizing the fun is ending and there's now a reality to be dealt with.

Rush Limbaugh could perform an immense service to the American Republic by simply calling Donald Trump what he is.

A Democrat.

“It’s so funny the Donald does all his government attacks, because his entire heritage is from the government,” says Julia Vitullo-Martin, a senior fellow with New York’s Regional Plan Association.

What makes you think Trump is going to put CONSERVATIVE Supremes on the bench? He is PRO ABORT, PRO GAY MARRIAGE, SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE, I don’t see him putting any Conservative Constitutionalists anywhere... sorry.

Conservative values say, Marriage is between a man and a woman, Babies are babies in the womb and not to be killed, We are free to choose our health plan... ALL of which Trump disagrees with...never talks about social issues.. only that wall.

He is slowly coming to the realization that what he's been preaching about people to the right of center are not orthodox conservatives. They are populists.

He knows that, and knew that. Plus "populists" is a very general term. it's basically everyone without a recognized political philosophy. Not that this is a bad thing, it's just a position where self interest and terms like best, better, OK, not so good, and bad, actually mean something politically.

The people who don't know that are the GOP.

There is also a large contingent of people who consider themselves (self identification) as "Conservatives" but in reality they hold a few conservative positions and don't get into the philosophy of Conservatism.

Back in the day we called these people republicans. Over the years efforts were made to pigeon hole the republican base, but a lot of folks don't fit in any defined hole.

There was a time when I did not either. I called myself a Republican. Today, because I have studied and absorbed the philosophy of Conservatism, I now call myself a Conservative.

None of this is new, but it might be new for some who really don't understand how they actually fit politically and are now forced by circumstance (Trump) to do something they have never done before and that is to look inside and do a analysis.

You think , watching Trump at all these rally’s dominate, that any group of people can keep his feet to the fire if he doesn’t like the idea? He is going to make Obama look conservative before this is over.

Trump is PRO-LIFE, marriage is between one man an d one woman, making buying heath insurance, ACROSS STATE LINES, to get a good deal,is Trump's idea to replace ObamaCare, shore up Medicare, get rid of fraud and waste in ALL government departments and agencies, very PRO the first and second Amendments, lower taxes, shoring up the military and taking care of our vets.

If you haven't ever heard Trump talk about the above, which he does ALL the time; THEN YOU AREN'T LISTENING TO HIM AT ALL!

which he does ALL the time

You cannot make that case. What has been uncovered about his very thin record, is that that statement is not true, but you are ignoring it.

I don't really care, but I do need to correct that statement. I would say that he started talking about it as the position papers were written and posted online. That did not occur until sometime after he announced and hired staff, if you recall.

Those positions therefore cannot be said to be "all the time" positions..They are campaign positions. all the candidates have them to one degree or another and it's up to us to vet the candidate to see if those positions are real or simply created by necessity.

As you know, or should know, political candidates are very prone to selling the sizzle and have no steak worth a damn to back it up.

All invented positions since he filed, none of which he supports prior to the campaign.
