Go to 2:27. He picks the WWII M1 as the greatest gun invented.

This is my rifle,
this is my gun.
One is for killing,
the other for fun.

You cannot beat a 30 caliber rifle. My next firearm (if I can ever afford it) will be an M1A Scout. It’s the .308 version of an M1 (AKA M14).

I hated the M1. I marched with one everyday in Navy boot camp. It had the barrel plugged.

You can still get a fully functional, safe Garand from the Civilian Marksmanship Program for as little as $630 delivered. 192 rounds of non corrosive ammo will run you $115. I highly recommend them for hunting, SHTF or just down right fun. It’s a lot different with a piece of history at the range compared to modern plastic and aluminum.

Cub Scouts with M1 Garands?

Maybe the .22 variant my father trained on in ROTC in the 50's

He also mentioned an “Oh 3” as in M1903. One of the best .30-06 shooting platforms ever.

He has five of them, but likes the 03 also.

I'd have to go with the M2 Browning, almost a century after introduction, it's still in front line service.

DCM was the Department of Civilian Marksmanship, which was succeeded by the current-day CMP.

Wow. That’s a great story.

We were at my mother in law’s over Christmas. I asked if we could borrow my late FIL’s old Ruger 10/22 long term.

We had to pick through about 15 rifles that were squirrelled away to find it. Nothing exotic but there was a brand new looking Winchester 30-30. I’d never held one of those before.

9.1 pounds of absolute, 8 shot clip (not magazine, “you jerk off to a magazine you maggot, you put a clip in the Garand and and watch out for M-1 thumb.”) excitement!

While my memory is understandably suspect, I’m pretty sure the experience was as described.

Ermey for VP!

Oh, let me watch one of his press conferences. Oh please! He'd have them doing bends and mfers and mountain climbers with the first loaded, politically-motivated question out of any of their mouths.
