Brave Man's Bridge is currently the longest glass-bottom suspension bridge in the world. Even more frightening, the structure apparently sways in the wind. The recently completed span is a glass walkway suspended a stomach-flipping 180 meters (590 feet) above a sheer drop in China's central Hunan Province.

And it is built to the high standards of Chinese engineering from materials procured from low cost suppliers in that country.

Don’t worry, if/when the bridge collapses the Chinese gov’t will execute the engineer and builder.

The shoes are to prevent scratching the glass. People also wear them at the overlook at Grand Canyon.

According to an Australian Yahoo story it’s already closed for repairs. One of the glass panels shattered.

China has indeed become one of the wealthiest countries in earth. Not that the wealth is evenly distributed, but look at what they can afford to do just for the sheer hell of it: A Glass Bridge Walkway! Not at all practical. Sure, you’ll find a few daredevils ready to do it, but how big a percentage of the population are prone to such risky diversions? Not a lot, I’d presume. Quite a feat of engineering though.

Then there’s the priorities, like the lack of bridges and good roads in many communities.

I put a link to a story about a crack in Post 15. It cracked because somebody dropped a thermos on it?!?!?

I would like to cross that bridge. I wonder if they have a weight limit for the visitors?

Yes, the weight limit is equivalent to 1 thermos bottle!

No sh!t, Sherlock. I would've thought it would be rock solid and not move an inch. Silly me.

Reminds me of my first commercial jetliner flight when I was 18. I was shocked to see the ends of the wings flapping up and down in turbulent air. I thought they were about to fall off.
