The tranquility of a good morning is interrupted by sudden death swooping in a blur from the sky.
I regularly chase away interloping cats but never dreamed of such aspectacle as I observed this morning

I’ve seen one or two hawks sweep past my truck in the process of grabbing up breakfast. It’s the circle of life they don’t show the kiddies at Disney.

Will happen to America if we don’t open our eyes and look around.

Window impacts are a common cause of death around here. Worse yet, the dog has learned to recognize the sound and knows what it means.

I have Coopers Hawks in my neighborhood. They take other birds frequently.

This acorn was apparently already dead when the squirrel found it.

Just another day in “game of life”. Better than a cat I guess. At least the Kestrel eats what it kills.
Funny thing about hawks we have noticed, if you make eye contact with them they will leave immediately. Even if you are driving down the road. We have tired that.

I haven’t seen it happen, but have found the evidence a few times. A clump of picked-clean bones and a few feathers. I recon they eat almost everything else, but haven’t really looked that close for beaks and toenails.

I saw Sparrows, Robins and Cardinals all freaking out in my yard one day. I looked at what they were looking at and it was a Blue Jay shredding and eating a baby bird of some sort. Nasty Blue Jay!
