George Lucas apologizes for calling Disney ‘white slavers’

LOS ANGELES (AP) — George Lucas has apologized for criticizing Disney’s handling of “Star Wars” and saying he had sold his characters to “white slavers” in a recent interview with Charlie Rose.

In a statement issued Thursday, Lucas says he misspoke and used a “very inappropriate analogy.” It was not clear what the “Star Wars” creator meant by the “white slavers” comment, and Rose did not ask a follow-up question on his PBS show that aired Dec. 24. The charged words nonetheless sparked ire when the interview was posted online Wednesday.

He compared W to the Emperor so no surprise at this one. Lucas is just another idiot liberal in the world of show biz.

Yeah but white slavers could refer to the white owners of black slaves so who knows for sure. White slavery is like you said the enslavement of white women for prostitution. Taken was a movie about it.

In an interview with Charlie Rose, George Lucas spoke about everything from his and Disney's branching vision to the deal itself. Lucas, who has always been protective of his series and even refers to them as his "kids," hasn't been looking back well on the deal with Disney (via Collider). "I sold them to the white slavers that takes these things, and...," Lucas said before laughing and deciding it better not to finish. (See the interview below. Lucas mentions the "white slavers" around the 50-minute mark)

Apparently Lucas has some issues of his own as far as wages.

I skipped a lot more and found it. Starting at 49 minutes.

[Lucas talking about selling his movies]

Lucas: When you break up with somebody the first rule is no phone calls. The second rule you don't go over to their house and drive by to see what they're doing. The third one is you don't show up at their coffee shop or [????]. You just say "no, gone, history. I'm moving forward." 'Cause every time you do ... and, you know, we all learn this from experience ... every time you do something like that you're opening the wound again. And it just makes it harder for you. You have to put it behind you and it's a very, very, very hard thing to do. But you have to just cut it off and say end of ballgame. I've got to move on. And everything in your body says don't, you can't. These are my kids.

Rose: All those Star Wars films.

Lucas: All the Star Wars films.

Rose: They were your kids?

Lucas: Yeah, they are my... I loved them, I created them. I'm very intimately involved with them. And obviously to sell them off..

Rose: And you sold them.

Lucas: And I sold them to the white slavers that take these things and ... and, uh [laughs]

Star Wars is the stupidest movie I’ve ever seen. What Lucas says doesn’t matter.

So why did he show up at the world premiere for the Force Awakens? Lucas is nuts.

Good film although they went way overboard with the PC Affirmative Action nonsense. No doubt we have seen the last white male hero in this series.

Either that, or Disney’s lawyers pointed it out.

In the video he didn't seem angry. More regretful of losing control of something he loved but knowing he was too old (70) to count on making 3 more movies. He could have made a comparison to marrying off the films instead of selling them into white slavery and made the same point without having to try to pull his foot out of his mouth.

He viewed these characters as his children and sold them into white slavery.

these people that purchased "his children" can't really take this to court. They would rather pretend he never said it.

When my mom first seen it in the 70's she pointed out that it's just another version of the Wizard of Oz. She was right it has all the same characters and good and bad witch's.

Lucas could have given the reigns to JJ Abrams or even say his friend Spielburg who expressed at one time to wanting to do a Star Wars picture without selling out to Disney. I don’t think he could have kept from meddling though. Once Disney took control they tossed his outline for a story and did their own thing with no meddling from George.

I read somewhere that Disney tv shows stop at 72 episodes so Disney never have to pay residuals. Slavers indeed.

For anything criminal? No. Libel? No. Breach of contract? Maybe. But more likely just apologize for saying it and then shut up.

It’s pretty bad when whites are accusing whites of slavery against each other...I guess they figure that the race card works for blacks, so why not!?!?

Star Wars is twisted fiction that appeals to fans at the San Diego Comic Con. Empire Strikes Back (1980), maybe the best of the bunch, had Luke rejecting teamwork with Vader. Now Disneyland wants to build a boring Star Wars park in Anaheim: no good messages for kids, no good tactics for soldiers, and no inspiration for Christians. Sad.

I remember what Roy Disney said about the new California Adventure when it opened in 2001: “I liked it better when it was a parking lot.”

The good news is that Main Street is still nice and Cars Land (2012) is a favorite for automotive fans.

But the lines are super long for the fun rides.
