"It's awful," the stressed-sounding voice on the phone declared. "It's just awful."
The voice belonged to my primary care doctor's office manager. She had just told me that my doc would not accept my health insurance in 2016, and that the nearest physician who would accept it is in a town a thirty-minute drive away. She was describing the dilemma that many of the doctor's patients now face. For our health insurance -- which we are now required by law to purchase, of course -- to be of any value, we will have to make an hour-long round trip just to see a doctor.
"If you like your health care plan, you'll be able to keep your health care plan, period."

My deductable is now $8K. I have never had expenses that high so my insurance does not cover anything. Great work Zer0.
You only care about that large deductible because you hate the Black Man in the White House!
I have known individuals that have already experienced this from two years ago.
Best advice that I can give. Watch how you vote this coming election and call Congress and don't stop calling them. They may turn a deaf ear like they always do, but phone calls and letters still make them miserable.

My deductible is now $8K
My deductible was 10K, but they covered 100% after that, NO Co-Pay at all. My wife and I are both in good health, and Obamacare Cancelled my Major Medical Plan. Now we have none, but I have no problem Paying for Regular Medical expenses out of pocket, I have been my whole life. When you are a Cash Paying customer, you would not believe the discounts and better treatment you receive, NO Paperwork for the Doc at all, write the check and go. It isn’t that much money for an office visit or stitches, broken bone... It is only the MAJOR SHIT you need a Policy for.
Why not just go to the Doctor of your choice and PAY FOR IT??
“My deductable is now $8K. I have never had expenses that high so my insurance does not cover anything.”
My wife is a stroke survivor so we get to know quite a few members of the medical profession on a regular basis. Most years, thankfully, we would not hit that deductible either.
If I wasn’t disabled I would be screwed.
Same with my cousin. She’s peeved! She’s subsidized but still pays right at $100 per month and can’t afford to use the insurance. She’s one of those ‘uninsured’ that Obamacare fixed. She still uses the free clinic. lol
“You only care about that large deductible because you hate the Black Man in the White House! “
Possibly the most childish statement ever made on FR.
There are many, many reasons to hate someone without color being an issue. But, simple minds need to reduce everything to a color code to get what they don’t earn in life.
He was being sarcastic.
Our policy just went up an extra $150 per month.
A very reasonable solution for thiose that can afford it. But then the gummint is not in the middle of it controlling everything so they do not want to allow that.
Obama put 94 million people out of the workforce. Somebody has to pay for their healthcare. Your “insurance” was never intended to cover your expenses.
That makes a lot of sense. Eliminate the middleman for all but major ailments.
I basically did just that. I had a lens replaced in one eye a month ago and am waiting for the piecemeal bills to arrive. First one came today from the anesthesiologist - $600. Medicare paid $150, I have no other coverage except the VA (who wouldn't touch me) so they "adjusted" $400, and I pay $50.
The last time a lens was replaced they also ate most of the bill, and it cost me $1,500, which I thought was cheap for the benefit of having my sight restored.
Sarcasm.
And very good sarcasm, it caught you.
“When you are a Cash Paying customer, you would not believe the discounts and better treatment you receive, NO Paperwork for the Doc at all, “
Really? I mean, logically that makes perfect sense.
But I see patients at the dentist paying cash being charged mire than i am because my insurance limits what the dentist can charge. When I called around for prices on a crown, the cash price was more than the insurance price.
Is it that much different with doctors?
patients at the dentist paying cash being charged mire than i am”
I would find a New Dentist tomorrow, And start actually shopping for a Real Dentist or Doctor, because my experience has been the exact opposite.
It’s the same with all dentists I called. I haven’t needed a doctor so haven’t checked into it.
I know insurance limits substantially what they get paid, so try to make it up with cash patients, giving a discount but not as big a one as insurance dictates.
No need to be condescending about it. I’ve had ‘real’ dentists and never called a fake one.
