To build the new 14-acre "Star Wars" area, the park will permanently close Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland, Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree, starting Jan. 10.
(Disneyland officials say the animals in the petting zoo have been adopted by a Southern California family that has worked with Disney animals in the past.)
Nearby attractions on the Rivers of America â mainly Fantasmic, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, the Disneyland Railroad and the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes - will close temporarily.

14% of the park's attractions will be closed either permanently or temporarily in an area that represents nearly a quarter of Disneyland's 85 acres.
Also, Autopia, the mini car attraction that opened in 1955, is set to close for routine maintenance in January. According to Koenig, the car ride will reopen with a new sponsor, Honda. Disney officials declined to comment.

In Tomorrowland, the Space Mountain and Star Tours rides have been overhauled to include special effects borrowed from the recently released movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
An underused area in the Innovations building of Tomorrowland has been converted into Star Wars Launch Bay, a hall where parkgoers can play "Star Wars" video games, buy merchandise and meet costumed characters from the movie franchise.
The Galactic Grill eatery now sells treats inspired by "Star Wars" characters, such as a dessert dubbed Darth by Chocolate and the Cheese 3PO Burger.

Back in the day, Disneyland was for the kiddie set while us older kiddies went to Magic Mountain in Valencia.
More of Disney’s dearth of its own creativity under Iger.
More of the usual disney liberal brainwashing. The people have not realized what has been going on and might figure it out once they are in concentration camps. Most of them probably still will not figure it out.
Not a good idea to eat at a place called "Big Thunder."
There are a couple of ways to interpret the name and neither of them is very pretty.
That’s half the Disney property in California.
Disney Park includes California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney.
It has plenty of attractions to visit and things to do.
I saw the new Star Wars movie. What I got out of it is that it’s a movie whose time has come and gone, put it out to pasture. In the late 70s early 1980s it was something new, today it is old hat. Unless they come up with some revolutionary things that nobody has seen before for the next movie I doubt Disney is going to recoup that $4 billion they paid George Lucas.
An interesting plot?
Character development?
Continuity?
The popular franchise is a cash cow for Disney.
New attractions bring new interest and renewed visitor attendance at the park.
Bob Iger knows what works since he turned the failing California Adventure Park around.
this is very old news.
This is already been/being done in Disney world Orlando.
this is about the next generation (curated free/cable free/ala carte) entertainment.
jar jar abrams was not hired to be original, he was hired to create a merchandising platform.
Where did you find that picture? I wanna post it on my facebook
Lens flares
Jar Jar Abrams likey likey flair flair.
Yeah I guess, Star wars has a huge fan base but I think it’s based more on the games and merchandise today rather than the movies. This new one I saw was REALLY mediocre, at least to me. It was practically verbatim from the original Star wars from 1977, it was like they just got lazy and did a reboot but made it more boring. I don’t know, maybe I’m old, I was around 16 when I saw the original in 1977 and it absolutely blew my mind, but maybe this is something new for kids today but I just didn’t see it. That whole canvas of Star Wars gives the writers the ability to do ANYTHING they want, turn a man into a cow? Hey why not, blame it on the force, they could have done anything they wanted. Instead they did a remake and played it safe so what I am saying is if they want to keep up that interest at least movie wise, they better come up with some good original stuff because those 3 movies Lucas made in 2000s were horrendous, now it seems they are going down that path yet again.
Anything that closes Fantasmic is okay by me...I thought it was boring.
The new movie will probably take in over 2 billion alone with another 4-5 billion in product sales. They are already close to being in the black off that purchase.
No! Not the canoes!
