Steve Harvey took the blame for perhaps the most epic beauty pageant host blunder of all time on Sunday nightâs Miss Universe 2015 Pageant, but some are pointing to a backstage Snapchat video as proof the mistake may have been someone else's.
A seven-second behind-the-scenes video shows Harvey immediately after naming the wrong winner -- Miss Colombia instead of Miss Philippines -- pointing to a cue card and talking to an unidentified person saying: "The teleprompter said Miss Universe -- Colombia."
Snapchat is a social media platform that features user-generated short videos. The video in question looks as if it were posted on the Miss Universe Snapchat channel, but it is no longer there. It has however been shared multiple times by users, including a pageant queen from the Miss America organization, Miss Alabama Meg McGuffin, who wrote: "Watch the Miss Universe snap story ... Harvey says, "The TelePrompter said Miss Universe--Colombia"...someone in production is fired...."
Sports Illustrated writer Kenny Ducey tweeted, "Conspiracy theory #2 -- the teleprompter."
Another social media user, Taylor Ramsey, weighed in: "Teleprompter was wrong. Yes he had a card, but we all know the card is just for show ...from #Miss Universe snapchat."
Harvey immediately apologized for the mistake calling it a "human error," and apologized on Twitter.
"I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible."

I feel so bad for Miss Colombia. I would like to console her for a few days if that would help ease her mind. Just send her to my house and I will make sure she is ok.
Trump said it wouldn’t have happened had he still been in charge. So I think he needs to drop is presidential campaign, buy back the Miss Universe franchise, and fix it. And by fixing it he will truly make America great again.
Dan Quayle was given a card with “Potatoe” written on it. The card was wrong (or at least non-standatd).
The media cut him no slack.

—yep—I saw that—wonder if CNN has managed to eliminate all evidence of that—?
It was Jacks fault! Mr. Daniels!
Then why did Harvey sheepishly take the fall?
Read that Harvey was doing a little gambling and drinking before the show. You would think he would wait until AFTER its over. No common sense. Such a crud he is.
The card was written in cursive.
I only recently learned that interesting fact about the potato incident with Dan Quayle. I would have gone with what the card said too! And potatoes is plural for potato, so it can be easy to confuse. The media utterly destroyed him with that simple little gaff.
This is why Trump is it, he can break through all that, and has multiple times. Cruz will eventually make some remark and get ‘potatoed’ or get the ‘binders full of women’ treatment. I love Cruz but he would not be able to pull out of it, its only a matter of time.
Is this an early excuse for the enemedia covering for an Indonesian "misstatement"?
That comment shows how far you’ve fallen.
You do have some sympathy from me, not much, but some.
I realize there are so few negatives about Trump and you have so little to work with. So you’re stuck with the kind of silly stuff you just posted.
Whatever happened to the old days of “heads will roll” or “you’re fired”? If someone’s incompetent they should be FIRED. This affirmative action mentality is destroying our economy.
I read Columbia’s consul general was really incensed about the mistake wreaking havoc on Miss Columbia’s psyche. Get a grip. It’s not like someone accidentally spayed DDT on Columbia’s primary nose candy crop and ruined their economy.
Was conspiracy theory #1 that Harvey did it on purpose for the publicity?
Obama must have loaned Harvey his teleprompter.
But he couldn’t spell either COLOMBIA or PHILIPPINES in tweets afterwards. LOL!
