Heh... a HUGE favorite in my teen years, truly my own age undreamed of. The movies were absolutely execrable though.

"Roman “steel” used in armor was case hardened iron ( packing organic plant materials in with the the iron when beat into plates). If you want to call that steel then fine."

I call Roman "steel" an alloy of iron and carbon, which is the definition of steel.

BTW, in the 1960s, after the Restall tragedy (overcome by gas, three died in an excavated pit), Robert Dunfield moved a significant fraction of the entire mass of the island, built a cofferdam over the supposed openings for the water channels, and connected the island with the mainland (still exists and in fine shape). The pit he dug at the "Money Pit" site was 148 feet deep and 100 feet wide. Bupkis. Wood has been brought up from depth via drilling and coring, but AFAIK, none of it has been RC dated -- I suspect MOST such wood is natural, and antedates the last Ice Age; the rest is stuff left behind by treasure seeking tunnels, or dumped into the former Dunfield pit as fill.

Yeah, but now I know the Riddle of Steel. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

That's nice but they didn't have that technology. But by all means post some references to that. Every historian I know of considers Rome an iron age empire ( the republic was more bronze age ) but maybe you know better than ALL OF THEM.

The way I understand it the the iron ages low carbon content weapons were NOT superior to bronze age weapons. It is just iron was more plentiful an ALMOST as good as bronze. Bronze was expensive, still is. Now OTH high carbon steel is way better the bronze.
