HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Charges have been filed against a man who stopped traffic on a busy freeway for a marriage proposal.

The proposal happened on the North Freeway near downtown Houston on Sunday. Eyewitness News learned Tuesday that Harris County District Attorney's Office is charging Vidal Valladares, 24, with obstruction of highway, a class b misdemeanor.

We spoke with the couple on Tuesday, as Valladares said he was going downtown to answer to the charges.

"I'm feeling bad, and of course," said Valladares. "I'm wanting to apologize to everyone if I caused any problems. That wasn't my intention in the beginning. I just wanted to do something different."

"He just proposed . It's not like he did it, I don't know,' said Valladares' fiance, Michelle Wycoff. "It's hard and knowing the fact; We find it scary, you know. And we're really sorry."

Both Valladares and Wycoff say they were surprised about the charges. Valladares said he just wanted to do something different. He says it knows it was crazy and dangerous, but he's in love and it was worth it.

Good. Hope they do time and have to pay restitution for the millions of dollars of other people’s time and money they wasted.

Calculate every minute of delay he caused other people and make him serve that time in jail.

While satisfying to those he inconvenienced, that solution doesn't add anything to the government's coffers, and in fact will cost them money. The government will go for the solution that fattens their wallets every time.

How romantic. I just use a bear claw from the donut shop dumpster whenever I propose. A fresh one, of course.

A filthy highway is not romantic to most. Why?

Valladares said his friends and family, who were following closely behind, stopped traffic for about 35 seconds while he popped the question.

And a book deal, to boot.

You don’t want to do either one on a busy highway.

It appears the massively clueless bride & groom are about as bright as a refrigerator bulb and have a entitlement mentality.

I saw vehicles passing them on the inside shoulder, Honking.

I was really wishing some trucker would hurl a urine-bomb there way.

..says family and friends were behind them.

No one has sense enough to say it was a bad idea.

Just when you think you've seen it all.

He should have just stated he was with BLM. Charges would be dismissed.

“But it’s okay if BlackLivesMatter does it.”

It all depends on the context. These moronic couples did it for their own personal gain — they have no justification. Yes, they were peaceful, unlike BLM, but they have no cause beyond selfishness.

MLK did also shut down roads with his marches. He was 1) peaceful and 2) had a cause. BLM can claim to have a cause, but their methodology is not peaceful. This couple were peaceful, but they have no cause.
