Carry gun for the current day
vanity ^ | 02 Dec 2015 | dangerdoc

I carried a 1911 then an M9 in the service.

Carried a 1911 commander for a while as a civilian but as I got older and attire for work changed, I switched to a subcompact 9mm.

Last year, the world started feeling more dangerous and I upgraded to a 10mm double stack pistol, bag carry. But in a world where the bad guys show up with rifles and today with rifles, armor and bombs, any pistol seem pretty anemic.

I'm curious what other freepers carry or are thinking about self defense in the world that Zero has given us.

“...B.A.R...

Is that a Whippet?”

Yep that’s a Whippet all right. Whippet down one side n Whippet up the other then straight up the middle till all you see is red mist. :~)

I will definitely check out the P320. Tomorrow is my birthday and I’m headed to Gander Mountain!

Every day.

Tomorrow morning the AK is taking up residency in the trunk. Plenty of ammo.

I will be the one shooting back.

I carry a Glock 43 (the new single stack 9mm) with one spare mag. Because of recent shootings, I now keep a Glock 17 (with Glock light/laser) and 5 mags in a bible case (with a foam insert) in the car.

I’m working on a similar foam rig for my tablet carry bag (a single strap messenger bag kind of thing). Part of the mods for the tablet bag is two stainless steel cables (from bike locks) that run the length of the strap to prevent a slash-and-grab. This way I can carry a G19 with 3 mags and still be able to pull an iPad out so no one thinks its anything more. (Yeah, I have a lot of Glocks)

There’s a concealable .44 mag revolver with a 2 inch barrel on cheaperthandirt now. .38 and .357 also. I rather revolvers for concealed carry now vs. the mag pistols.

Carried a full size 1911 for 20 years. With all the recent crap I’m now carrying a full size XDM with 2 spare mags. It’s heavy...but I can manage. I also carry a rifle in the trunk (w/200 rounds), along with a lvl 3A vest.

>>I would think that convenience trumps anything regardless. The odds of encountering an armored enemy are extremely low, unless you intend on picking fights with the police.

I used to say exact same thing that a decade ago. Even two years ago.

But, in this present day the odds are still very low, but the consequences of the odds going against you are catastrophic. You don’t carry to fend off a mugger anymore. You carry to stop a person (or persons) from herding you into line and executing you. That requires magazine capacity and reloads.

MY BAD! I meant P232!!!! NOT THE P320!

Which is Sig’s version of the PPK/S which I had before the Sig. The Sig is far more reliable than the Walther and more accurate to boot.

The “boating accident” thing was funny the first 1000 times. Now, its just one of those old jokes that some annoying uncle tells every single time you see him.

A late, greatly missed bartender I knew carried a Hi-Power even though as a USMC enlistee in VN, he was exposed to a dozen weapon varieties.

I don’t think he ever claimed the ability to hit anything with it.

Any long gun is impractical unless it’s a truck gun.

That said, any handgun is a compromise.

Which compromise is best is up to you. I doubt if I’ll change anything myself. You pays your money and at a point you just live with your chance.

My own inner Rambo says to kill one of the bad guys and take his ak to kill the other ones. Something else tells me to kill the one between me and the exit and lead the way out. In any case no 10mm handgun for me.

Romanian TTC with 3 mags back. That 7.62 x 25 round is a real ice pick. Pistol is loud but very accurate.

Schmart!

Glock 20 SF. I was worried my point of aim would be off after shooting 1911s for decades. Turns out not to be a problem. I don’t even mind the Safe Action.
