You'll no doubt laugh, but years ago I had a huge, female black jumping spider that lived on my kitchen windowsill.
Sometimes, I'd swat a fly and give it her.
She became quite “tame”.
She'd sit with me, amiably, while I did dishes and no one was better at catching the flying things that stray in, now and again.
A week went by and I did not see her and got concerned.
Then, I happened to look down in the small scrap trash can by the sink, and there she was, *gone*.
I cried.
A couple days later, she was back in the window, happy as ever.
What I'd found in the trashcan was just her *moult*.
;D
She finally disappeared for good, a few years back.
No idea how long they live but she was around for about 3 years.
She did leave behind a couple little ‘uns, just like her, though.
Even I still get "spooked" by spiders, once in a while.
This fall brought the usual wolf spiders inside and one of them, I swear, was "social".
It kept coming up on the sofa and sitting near me or would run wildly across my outstretched legs.
When one suddenly jumps on the back of your hand, you're gonna flinch. LOL
