Momentum, a New Contender For "Worst Movie Ever," Yields $69 in UK Opening Night
PasteMagazine ^

There’s no easy way to define a financially “successful” movie. A lot depends on how much it cost to make, and even then, it’s not as basic as targeting a specific profit margin. Critical acclaim can make up for some lost revenue, as can awards, and then there’s licensing, and digital downloads, and retail, and DVDs, and sequels, and who knows what else. This is an inexact science that resists simple conclusions.

I have never been able to get through Pleasantville though I started watching it on several occasions.

I think the worst I have ever seen was “Mister Mike’s Mondo Video.”

I thought even the MST3K episode was painful. There are so many better episodes. “Manos” is just one to watch once to say you did it.

Yeah, “Pleasantville” was garbage. I’m pretty sure it was written by 16-year old boys.

Ah, yes. “Robot Monster” (1953). I once met the leading lady of that film. I think she’s still around.

Nope, "Barbarella".

“Nothing can EVER be worse than “Manos the hand of fate”.
NOTHING.”

Agreed. It is so bad, it isn’t really funny bad - just so bad you keep looking at the clock on the wall, longing for the movie to be over. But it is kind of a tonic in the sense that you will know that going forward you will never see a movie as bad as that. Any bad movie you see just won’t be as bad as Manos.

OMG I forgot about the Dan Rather movie... did anyone actually go see it? How bad did it do at the theaters?

Plan 9 has its unintentionally funny moments and it is not totally boring. There was even sort of a message to it as I recall even if the message is a cliché - one of the space aliens remarked about how violent and warlike humans are and evidently his home planet saw us as a threat. Plan 9 is one of the “good” bad movies - Manos just drags on and is bad.

There is a show on METV Saturday night called “Svengoolie”. It is not as well done as “Mystery Science Theater” and I suspect it doesn’t cost nearly as much to make.

It is better in one respect tho. He usually gives quite a few interesting facts about the movie and the making of it etc.

The worse movie ever was "The Talented Mr. Ripley". I had the dubious pleasure to watch it in a movie theater. Near the end the screen fades to black but then continues after a few moments, when this happened the entire audience groaned realizing the punishment was going to continue.

The first 30 minutes of "the horse whisperer" was also absolutely horrible. I can't in good conscious say the movie as a whole is equally bad because I've never been able to watch the entire thing.

She’d be perfect starring as *Miss Clavicle*.

is this another movie where the press is touting the press telling everyone how wonderful the press is?

“They Came to Rob Los Vegas (1968)”

Gary Lockwood’s finest role. LOL He uttered the famous line, “Where’s my truck?” while laughing stupidly.

He would soon be killed off by Hal in 2001.

Just checked Box Office Mojo because I wondered about this myself. It made almost $2.4 million since it’s release over a month ago. I guess the American people didn’t buy Dan Rather’s “Troof” at the theater either.
