I also have climbed Mt Fuji. Also Popocatepetl, Ixtachuhatl and Orizapa in Mexico. Mt Hood and Ranier in USA. Cotopaxi and Cayambe in Ecuador. Mt Gede in Indonesia.

Orizapa should be Orizaba in Mexico. The 3rd highest peak in North America.

Impressive! I’ve hiked Mt. Lassen a couple times, the lava fields at Cinder Cone in Lassen Park. and up to Panorama Point on Rainier, but nothing like those climbs.

Looking at the graphic in the article, I note what appears to be a crater rim running from the N side around to the east behind the crest. Hard to tell if it runs in front because of the coloring. I am wondering if there was an even larger explosion at an earlier time, or if the huge volcano might have been started by a large meteor strike.
