I will be working in Nairobi, Kenya for 8 months starting March 2016. For the period I can rent a car for $1,200 per month, but am thinking I'd be better off buying a new car for about $8,000 and selling it when leaving. How practical is this? Thank you very much for your time and help!
Personally, I’d look for another job.

Agreed! Very informative, and thanks for the enlightening pictures.
Buy a good used car, then give it to charity when you leave or find a needy person yourself..............
I as involved in a hit and run with a rental. Semi made a right turn from the left lane and kept going.
Enterprise met me at the body shop with a new car and of I went.
Pretty cool.
My advice is to do the math. Seems cheaper to buy a junker and just leave it on the side of the road rather than to rent.
I had forgotten about the Nairobi Trio.
Nairobi is such a great place to live, the weather, the people the attractions and it happens to be Africa’s most successful ICT hub. Might have to rent, getting shown around by a local has so many positives. From staying safe, experiencing the culture to visiting off the beaten track destinations.
Beautiful photos of Nairobi. Thank you for sharing.
30 mile traffic jam.
Lorry drivers in Kenya have finally got moving again after spending almost three days stuck in a traffic jam.

No astroturf in the back like Clinton had.
Barry went with foam rubber glued to the front fender for all those dreamy Kenyon evenings when the boys bent him over the hood.
I would ask the people I’m going to be working for, for their advice.
If you stay in Nairobi, (but what is the fun of that?) you will only run a tiny chance of getting malaria. If you go outside the city you have two options, take the preventative or take the risk. Since the preventative back then gave me weird dreams that left me exhaust the next day I chose to take the risk. Your mileage may vary but at the time it was a simple matter to get both the test kit and the cure at your local pharmacy.
Have fun!
Don’t Drive Here is a Canadian tv show going to numerous cities around the world examining driving conditions. This is the Nairobi episode.

I will rent a car in Nairobi but won’t drive there, however I will drive in the countryside and in Amboseli. Thank you for the video. It is quite enlightening and funny.
YW...have a safe time while there.
