lots of places on line

I got a 5 liter, not 5 gallon.
I run the wash 3X, hence triple distilled or “XXX”

Wanna try an ice distillation this winter, freeze the whole wash and then thaw slowly allowing the water ice to form while the alcohol doesn’t freeze...

I’ve been doing some prepping lately. I don’t know what’s coming for sure... but you can sense something is coming. I’m thinking about getting a portable ham radio. 2 meter. Anyone here have much experience with that? How difficult is the license test etc?

Cheap chicken, actually. It’s always good to have some protein in the larder.

"Your suggestions regarding heat are really valuable"

For most folks insulation will suffice. Lots of blankets, extra long john's, or spare coats can get you through a fuel loss if push comes to shove.
Visit Goodwill or yard sales for very affordable used coats and gloves to keep on hand for the family if your budget doesn't allow for high tech thermal clothing.

I’ve converted old 30 gallon propane tanks to wood burners by cutting a couple of holes and sticking a pipe in the top.
The EPA can’t stop ingenuity in America. Lots of videos on how to do this. I got my tank at the local dump for free.

I don’t think the brand or model makes any difference. You do need one for real shtf scenarios.

I had thought to address elderly issues, but it turned into medical-health concerns.

Be sure to have more than one pair of glasses available! If something happens to your one pair it can be a problem!

Try to get as many meds stockpiled as you can persuade your doctor to prescribe. A year’s worth is great, but most will prescribe for 3 months worth no problem. If you can, buy all of them at once. Don’t forget over the counter stuff - aspirin, cold and allergy remedies, vitamins, pepto bismol, ipecac, muscle/ache cream, and whatever else you commonly use. Don’t forget minerals (Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium can be helpful, as can believe it or not - apple cider vinegar!) to guard against muscle cramps.

Have ability to do home care if someone becomes bedridden.... plastic mattress cover(s), extra sheets, etc., bedside commode, latex/nitrile gloves, masks, paper gowns or other protective outer wear. Can get some store-bought wipes, or create your own using a tupperware like plastic sandwich keeper, paper towels with baby shampoo, water, and perhaps one or two drops of dilute tea tree oil. [NOTE: tea tree oil can burn sensitive skin!) IN fact. learn about tea tree oil and other alternative remedies for common ailments. There are a number of books out there that can help. (For an all-encompassing book, “Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing” by Balch is a go-to source which Darlin and I use in an ongoing basis.

Get several yards of inexpensive cotton flannel to make adult diapers if your bed-ridden patient is incontinent.

Don’t forget the tarps, plastic sheeting, duct tape etc, in the case of biological warfare or plague issues.

Sanitizing supplies - bleach -(obtain pool shock - maintains its strength longer than store bleach. Also obtain scouring powder), soap, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol - liquor can fulfill this function as well - It also can double as a crude anesthesia agent. (As in, drink till you pass out if a medic must do a painful procedure like setting a bone. TEXOKIE does not advocate this measure except in an emergency... but each person has to decide what their emergency levels and needs might be...)

Honey is not just to eat. It has antibacterial properties and can be an effective wound treatment. Have plenty of bandages, or extra sheets for making washable (in bleach) bandages for wound care.

There are MANY other considerations along this line, but these are just a few to get you started in thinking what you might need and be able to put together... or already have!

THANK YOU for all those simple, common sense ideas. Most of them are already in place at our house. I will check out the mineral supplements. The properties of apple cider vinegar for muscle cramps is a new one. Good to know. Thank you again
