There hasn't been a good BBQ fight on FR in a while.

For kicks, there's aways the BBQ Jew to read.

Eastern NC bbq is relatively healthy - for pork bbq that is. Its vinegar and pepper based, and both vinegars and hot peppers are good for you. Counter acts some of the fat in the meat (and added).

Nobody cares if it is healthier. Healthy is not a criteria for buying good BBQ.

Of course the eastern is better for you. That is because the western tastes better. Good food is usually not as good for you.

No worries for me, since I don’t eat that nasty NC BBQ. Only TX BBQ will do.

Don’t worry, the EPA is working hard to make sure that outdoor BBQ will be ended by their regulations. Thus this contest over which is best will be nothing but a vague memory of the past.

I am from Raleigh and no I am not middle of the road, but I do like both eastern NC and western or Lexington style versions of BBQ. Good pork is good eating.

This is the kind of bone-headed, hair-splitting, feel-good, nanny-oligarchy crap that I have come to expect from the corporate/government suck-up, know-it-all ninnies of Big Health USA. How much of either style BBQ would a person have to eat to really make a significant difference, and would any of it counteract the number of beers it is washed down with, or any other of the myriad variables in life that makes things pointless?

("He ate nothing but Eastern NC style barbecue and stopped putting salt on his french fries, so he was heart-healthy until the drugs and promiscuity killed him. Thank God he didn't eat any of that Kansas City barbecue!")

Dying a bit earlier may be a reasonable price to pay to avoid vinegar-centric Eastern NC barbecue.

I like the mustard/vinegar sauce. Is that eastern? Here in VA, they usually give you your choice of sauces - tomato based (which they say is VA sauce) or vinegar based which they say is NC. But I don’t think that’s an accurate description of the origin of the sauces.

We’ve had terrific BBQ in Florida as well. Whenever we check into an RV park in FL, we ask around about where the best BBQ joint is and we’ve not been disappointed.
