LOS ANGELES >> U.S. Customs officials seized 450 illegal pork tamales from a passenger coming through LAX from Mexico earlier this month.
"Although tamales are a popular holiday tradition, foreign meat products can carry serious animal diseases from countries affected by outbreaks of Avian Influenza, Mad Cow and Swine Fever," said Anne Maricich, CBP Acting Director of Field Operations in Los Angeles in a written statement. "Every day CBP agriculture specialists prevent the intentional and unintentional introduction of harmful pests and foreign animal diseases into the U.S."

I can make really good tamales. Was taught by a friend who was a nun from some Podunk town in Mexico. RIP Sister Evelyn. She died from lung cancer years ago.

Around here in New Mexico, tamales appear to be a seasonal thing, with many families making them for the Christmas season. It's tradition.
They don’t have anything better to do?

On the other hand, while seizing a few dozen vacations snacks, the FDA probably inspected only about 1 out of 50 containers of tamales arriving at the Port of LA, leaving the other 49 containers of foreign meat products potentially carrying serious animal diseases from countries affected by outbreaks of Avian Influenza, Mad Cow and Swine Fever.
