Addyi, the so-called “female Viagra†pill made by Valeant Pharmaceuticals’ Sprout unit, is off to a slow start, with doctors writing just 227 prescriptions in its first few weeks on the market, according to a new report.
That compares to the more than half a million men who got prescriptions for Viagra in its first month on the market in 1998, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday.

It’s essentially a reverse SSRI. It has the opposite agonist/antagonist effect as SSRIs on this neurotransmitter. Addyi supposedly increases desire just as SSRIs may cause ahedonia.
The female equivalent to erectile dysfunction would be vaginismus and a litany of scar tissue and torn muscle physiological causes which make penetration painful or even damaging. This drug doesn't fix that at all, so the parallel was never really there.
Simply put, it is dishonest to infer Addyi is an equivalent to Viagra.
The drug deserves to fail in the marketplace because it doesn't fix all real problem for people who desire sex but are unable to participate as they would like. It just tries to cause desire, and who has time to waste on that if they are content in other activities.
Ladies just don’t feel it the way guys do. And it has a lot to do with the differences in anatomy, and its effects on sexual roles.
The state of sexual arousal in men is much more physical and is evident externally, while that of females is far more subtle, and manifest in a way not always easily observed.
“Sleepy-time Gal” (Dean Martin) was very much about the different responses.
“Women who take Addyi are supposed to refrain from drinking alcohol.”

The real problem is that you can’t get a doctor to write a prescription for somebody else.

I think my ex-wife must have been taking a “not tonight” pill on a daily basis.

Valeant needs a drug that makes men smell like a million bucks.

How staggeringly clueless do you have to be to pay a billion for a product like this that will never have a market?
A vastly greater sales potential would be a pill for men that would turn off the sex drive so that they just would not care about sexual activity at all.
This could possibly help women on Citalopram, which is known to permanently suppress the sex drive in women.
