Nov. 14, 2015

There are so many types of ad-blocking downloads, software, etc.....Can anyone share a good experience that they have had with how to block ads?

I just started using "no script" a few days ago (it's a Firefox add-on) and so far so good.

Good question! I’ve been wondering the same thing. And fear I’ll pick a bogus one.

It’s gotten to the point that I won’t visit the Washington Times anymore, due to all the ads.

If you're running I.E. browser, download this now, it's free and really works.

If you are fairly comfortable with the technical aspects of Windows and can follow basic directions, I would suggest making some modifications to your 'hosts' file, and the following website shows you how to do it:

I've been running mostly ad and banner free for years without any complications.

Good luck!

I found adblockplus to be massive memory hog...so I deleted it.

I discovered “uBlock Origin” and it works great on Chrome and it’s NOT a memory hog.

HIGHLY recommended!

They have an easier one: “disallow scripts” After a page loads you can temporarily stop all scripts. If you want them back again, double-click their icon. It normally resets when you leave a site.

AdBlock Plus and Ghostery (for the tracking stuff) and disable Flash entirely, Most sites have moved on to HTML5 which obviates the need for Flash and its attendant malware.

Noscript is asometimes a hassle but it will save you from the really bad stuff people get from computers. :)
