Mark Knopfler is one of the most underrated (or just plain unrated) rock guitarists extant.

Brilliant work.

Saw them live on their first US tour , on Long Island . My band in Tokyo ( 1986-1995 ) did a pretty decent cover of this cong .

Pick Withers - the drummer - was quite underrated . Last I heard he was running a pub .

Saw him last night in Atlanta, just an amazing guitarist, but the band was equally amazing. and Yes he did play SS :)

Knopfler is a far better guitarist than Clapton. IMO. I’ve got Sultans + a bunch of his CDs in my collection.
Sailing to Philadelphia is a theme album, based on Mason and Dixon’s mapping of the US. It’s Knopfler’s tribute to his adopted country.
