I'll start off with in no certain order;

Handfights: A toss up but lean towards "Fight Club".
Gunfights: "Open Range"
Car chases: "Fast & Furious" franchise.

Agreed. South Park did a parody of that fight between the handicapped kids. It was hysterical.

clint eastwood in The Good The Bad and The Ugly

The Father and Son shootout in the movie with Sharron STone, Decaprio and Gene Hackman- can’t remember name- The father shoots his son and the son says soemthign like “Wow, that was fast”

Another excellent gun battle scene was Doc Shooting the outlaw before Wyatt showed up- Val Kilmer was Doc- Shots the man in one of the best ‘draw scenes’ I’ve ever seen (although Charles Bronson had a great one too In the movie where he played a harmonica just three notes)- anyway- Doc tells the fella “You aint no Daisy” or something like that

They did an excellent job filiming that draw scene-

Best really, really short fight scene: Charles Bronson’s first fight in “Hard Times.” (”Ain’t you a little old for this, pops?”)

"Any CGI disqualifies it from being pure car chase. If above-average Joe cannot do it in his car then I do not find it exciting."

Fair, but do yourself a favor and Google "Fast & Furious" +car stunts. I just did. The vast majority of those stunts were real world which I already knew. My problem with car crashes in movies is when they blow up like they had pounds of C-4 in them. Stupid crap for 16 year old boys.

Car chase: The Bourne Identity.

Not a fancy car at all, but wow! What a ride! as he cooly slides to a stop in the underground parking garage.

The first fight scene, when Jason realizes ‘they’ are sending assassins to kill him, was very well done!

Another good fight was Arnold v. that female Terminator.

As for the car chases, I not only rule out CGI, but also any where the “ooh-ah” factor is created by editing. On that basis I rule out any of the F&F series, as entertaining as they are.

I think the last great car chases to meet this standard (and had three of them) was “Ronin.” Walter Hill’s “The Driver” also has multiple quality chase scenes.

My favorite part: Right after the first shooting, when the bad guys scatter, Costner picks up the head bad guys rifle. (Only guy smart enough to bring a rifle to a gunfight!) Costner starts by putting another shot into one of the bad guys on the ground, who was only wounded. Never leave a live enemy behind you!

I know. It would take a few more movies before he got himself killed - in a freak accident. It reminds me of the movie “The Omen” the way it happened.

Okay, but you should remember that the characters in the series are professional car thieves and street racers and not Joe-Six-Pack. You may want to check out this url: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/04/secrets-behind-the-three-most-amazing-stunts-in-furious-7

That and other things I've read verify that the vast majority of F&F car stunts are real. Not saying the franchise is all that good...just saying the car stunts are real-time and real-world. Of course when the sequence shows the driver behind the wheel with the scenery whizzing past, it is green screen. Best.

There was a story in Errol Flynn’s autobiography “My Wicked, Wicked Ways” where he saw a very young just arrived from Ireland Maureen O’Hara in the studio commissary and on a dare went up and copped a feel. She slugged him like a trained middleweight. The lady was, and still is, a lady. If you ever watch the 1930’s “Hunchback of Notre Dame” you’ll see how she looked at that time, age 19 ... spectacular. When she did the Quiet Man with Wayne she was 32 and He was 45.

"Of course the movie “Duel” was one long chase scene."

Probably one of the best made for TV movies ever. A thrilling exciting small movie by Steven Spielberg. Remind me the actor's name. He played Marshall Dillon's sidekick in the Gunsmoke TV series. Tired of Googling, poor me.
