Vanity: Threat detected by Avast
Breitbart

Posted on 10/07/2015 8:26:09 PM PDT by Mama Shawna

I just clicked on a thread titled 'Steve King Endorses Daniel Webster for Speaker of the House' posted by E. Pluribus Unum from Breitbart, and both times, my Avast virus protection popped up with 'threat detected'. Anyone else get this when clicking on this title? First time I've EVER gotten this while browsing FR.

It’s possible one of the linked images in the thread set off your anti-virus.

What brand web browser are you running? I’m running Google Chrome Version 45.0.2454.101 m with the current version of AdBlock Plus and don’t see any problems—Norton Internet Security did not detect any malware attacks.

I’m running Firefox. Never had a problem before. Really startled me when this popped up. After browsing the thread (despite the warning) someone is posting a LOT of links. Could possibly be the problem.

Yeah I get the same message from Avast. It says:

Infection: URL:Mal
Process: C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe

My Kaspersky says nothing about it..and I trust it..

I used Avast for many years and it’s good, but you do occasionally get a false positive and usually on images.

The website name is doing the triggering...It must be on their caution list...I don’t see anything in the image. Someone may have reported it to Avast.

Suggestion: update the malware definition signature code in Avast and see if the problem persists. Often, an updated definition for your Internet security program will correct for false positives.

I think it’s just a false positive.

I have runs scans, and I’m not getting any infections found, but just quick scans so far, no time for deep scans atm.
