If not for this 2nd WC, the Cubs would be out despite having the 3rd best record in all of baseball!
Back in the olden days the 1909 defending champ Cubs had 104 wins but lost the pennant to the 110 win Pirates.
...and then the winner has to play the Cards. Tough road.
I don’t see much hope with their current players.
Ryan Howard still hits the occasional homer but his other stats are woeful.
Carlos Ruiz is all done. Cameron Rupp should take over.
Freddy Galvis started out strong this year, but tailed off a lot.
Maikel Franco and Cody Asche have promise.
I like the announcers Scott Frantzke and Larry Andersen.
I like there chances too!
As an aside, one of my kids told me that some Yinzers on FB have invited Steve Bartman to the game. They are offering Pittsburgh as a “sanctuary city” where he could “enjoy” the game.
Kids!
JHay called it-—its a BlackOut on Wednesday!
#LetsGoBucs!
Cub fan’s just happy to be here.We knew they had a good young team...but not this good. This was supposed to happen in the next year or two.
Nobody will ever be the Yanks but there is no reason they can't be the like Cards but that will take talent, not only on the field but in the front office and in the scouting office.
Bucco fans should dig out some old Green Weenies and bring them to the game......need to put a hex on Arrieta.
Jake Arrieta on the mound will spell doom for the Bucs.
GO CUBS!!
Did he ever! A Buccos Blackout! The fans can make it happen!!!
Even sadder was in 1993, when the Giants won 103 games and still missed the playoffs, finishing a game behind Atlanta.
Neither of these teams (Cubs) can win two games in a series against the Cards, so what is the point of all this hype?
That coulda been.....and always loved how Vin Scully called him by his official name - Wilver.
You’re wrong, both the Pirates and Cubs have beaten the Cards two or more games in a series multiple times. Granted, the Pirates have been better at it than the Cubs, but they’ve both done it.
When talking about the three best teams in baseball, it’s best to stick with the facts.
FIVE guys with 40 or more homers and less than 100 RBIs this year:
Add Nelson Cruz and Carlos Gonzalez to the list.
That was rare in the ‘50s and ‘60s, although it did occur — Mantle, Duke Snider, Killebrew, Hank Aaron.
