A friend of mine - via Facebook - is arguing that Trump's wall is a pipedream that won't work because of myriad underground tunnels that are dug so deep they are undetectable by GPR . I Googled but couldn't find any current info to use to refute his claim . Anybody here hip to how Trump's wall COULD work ?
I know how it would work:
Get some reapers to patrol our side of the border wearing Hellfire missiles in case a tunnel rat emerges.

Everybody has a reason why a wall won’t work. Then what are they afraid of? Lets build the wall & they can see if they are right or wrong.
I’ll bet the guy who is telling you this, has a wall/fence around his house to keep out the undesirables.
What about the oceans? As long as our system rewards illegal immigration, they will get to the U.S.
A wall is a dumb idea. If people have the incentive to come, they will come. They’ll tunnel deeper, use submarines, who knows what. What we need is to take away the incentives. If illegals have no anchor babies, no welfare, no healthcare, no drivers licenses, no tax rebates, no jobs, no etc. they won’t come. No wall needed.
Build the wall then shut down the tunnels.
Shutting down the tunnels and leaving the border open is laughable.
Doing nothing about either leaves us where we are now.
Personally I’d set up minefields then open it up to public bidding and a lottery.
As far as a wall goes it could easily work and was manned with heavily armed individuals and a lot of sensors. Tunnels will always be attempted with some successful but tunnels are fairly easy to find and GPR is one of may ways to detect them.
Tell him the wall will be built down to bedrock therefore it will be impossible to tunnel under.
Combined Ground Penetrating Radar and Seismic sensors? All underground activity would be detected.
Vibration sensors along the wall buried. Standard tech thats been around forever. One goes off, you send up the helis, ID the source and start shelling it if Mexico refuses to arrest and remove the tunnelers/secure the site.

What about all the criminal elements in the drug trade? You won’t stop drugs demand but you can stop drug cartels at the border with a wall.

The coast guard has seized several submarines full of cocaine. If it was easy to control your borders why do we have drugs on our streets? Here is how capitalism works. If something is needed, someone will find a way to make a profit providing it. The coyotes, cartels etc. have a lot of capital to play with and it will not be simple, easy or cost effective to stop them. If you want people to stop coming into your country to get free stuff, maybe you should stop giving them free stuff.
