Agreed. We are not totally dead yet, but we are dying militarily.

I’m sure that’s just depressing as hell to our current military because it sure depresses me!

Being number one in strength is pointless when you have a wimpy ass who sympathizes and arms our enemies.

Having the strength is one thing. Having the will to use it is another.

Japan uses its military for defensive purposes only, they have not been majorly engage in any foreign intervention since the end of World War II.

That’s going to change pretty soon with China trying to occupy disputed islands that Japan claims is theirs.

“The U.S. Military is only ahead due to accumulated strategic capital from a more moral age, which is quickly being depleted.”

Well stated.

And don’t forget Space.

From the campaign trail, 2008...

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power

By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

It took the Germans nine days to go through them

Not even that ... two days to get thru the Ardennes forest, one day to get over the unguarded bridge at Sedan - the only one on the whole Western Front. By the time they had crossed over, the fate of France was sealed, the rest was just a race to the coast.

That photo sums up the current military perfectly. Our actual fighting force is an embarrassing sideshow to our current leadership. They begrudgingly allow them to survive, but that breastfeeding soldier photo is how our current military and political leaders see want the military to be.

Canada didn’t have much of a military prior to WWII either.

But along with us they ramped up very quickly and played a crucial role in defeating Italy and Germany.

That and he will “fundamentally transform the United States of America”. Also, his endless number of communist friends and associates (Wright, Ayers, Bernardine Dohrn, Jarrett, Van Jones, Michael Klonsky, etc, etc, etc).

“The French people were shattered by WWI”

The Brits too. And even us to a degree. That one fact you pointed out explains things today that people of this era look back and judge harshly.
Chamberlain couldn’t imagine that Germany would really be start WWI again. And the British public didn’t have the slightest desire for him to ignite a war.
People judge the US for not diving into the war in 39 when it first started in Europe. But also, there was no popular sentiment here to dive right in.

The 40 year old adults running the world then were not about to send their kids into the world the lived in 20 years before. Of course, Hitler forced it.
But at that time, the civilized world simply couldn’t make themselves believe someone would actually do it all again.

Reminds me of us and the moslems today. Nobody really thinks they are truly doing exactly what they are right in front of our eyes.
