Word For The Day, Monday, 9/28/15
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
fractious; adj.
1. refractory or unruly: a fractious animal that would not submit to the harness. 2.readily angered; peevish; irritable; quarrelsome: an incorrigibly fractious young man. NOTE: Fractious is sometimes wrongly used where factious is meant: this factious (not fractious) dispute has split the party still further
Etymology: 1725, from fraction in an obsolete sense of "a brawling, discord" (c.1500) + -ous; probably on model of captious. Related: Fractiously ; fractiousness.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
And in more encouraging news:
Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant wanted to remind everybody that there are
Only days until Christmas.
here before you know it! A+++ welcome back ; )
Heartbreaking. May God be with them. RIP, Tally.
passed.....I need to engage my brain when posting. LOL
he is beautiful and I am sure his Grandpa knows that. I am again reminded of Mary Katherine Hamm whose unborn child will never have met his/her father [i’m betting it’s a boy]. I heard her eulogy of her husband, not at the National Cathedral funeral, but one she did with family and friends and I was just awestruck at how poised and articulate she is in her grief.
Shrillary is scheduled to testify soon before Congress, when confronted with the evidence of her malfeasance I wonder just how fractious she will be.
Our prayers are with her family and you.
Very nice. Congratulations.
Very nice. Congratulations.
might be enough to bring back the stroke symptoms? A+++
Boehner resigned to enable a fractious Congress to fund the Nazi Nucatola, who wields her huge salad fork as if killing babies with it!!!!
May her Memory be Eternal!!!!
It’s heartbreaking. I can’t figure out how such a conservative voice as her’s was married to someone in the Obama administration. Or do I have that wrong?
she explains that in her eulogy, I will look for it for you.
horrific! A+++
No fractiousness was on display Friday night in J-town as a celebration of win #700 brought all manner of alumni players, band, cheerleader to the stadium for recognition.
The school looked absolutely strong compared to Wilkinsburg, a school whose continuing existence is in doubt. They fielded only 15 players. Their band just 14 kids.
You have to admire the kids in that kind of environment who have the discipline to stick with a team/band. Especially when success on the field has been elusive.
And the Spartans got a win, too. They scored with 14 seconds left for the win to improve to 2-2. The next 2 weeks will be tough, but if they weather that I think there’s a good chance they finish 4-4 in the conference.
