I never thought Donald Trump would run for president. If he did run, I didnt think he would gain any support, and if he did gain any support, I didnt think it would last. I thought all polls would show him being crushed by Hillary Clinton.
Fall is upon us, and Trump is leading in Iowa, leading in New Hampshire, leading all Republicans nationally. He has roughly double the combined support of Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio.
In a general election match up against Hillary Clinton, hes only 2.8 points behind, according to a RealClearPolitics polling average late last week, and doing about the same as Bush and Rubio.
I dont have much skull left in the spot where Ive been scratching my head because, as a conservative, I fail to see how Trump is anything but a flaming liberal compared to Bush, Rubio and every other Republican candidate
As a patriot, Im shocked that Trump got away with slandering John McCain for his Vietnam ordeal. As a person who has a face, I cant believe he stooped to attacking Carly Fiorinas.
So this time Ill try something different: imagining what its like to be a Trump supporter. Whats the appeal?
I think I can answer in one word: Stones. Cojones. His buildings arent the only things he owns that are thickly layered in brass (and, probably, emblazoned with the Trump logo.)

Everybody is a leftist ‘cept for Cruz; And he has made some bad votes of late...
Trump is for Americans. Bringing back jobs for Americans, and defending our borders.
Who else is?
Jobs for Americans, and defending our borders.
We have how many candidates in the GOP this time, yet Donald Trump is the ONLY ONE saying these things.
NOT conservative the author is.
Mr. Trump neither was for Amnesty, speaks in Spanish
out the side of his mouth,
and did not contribute to the murder of Terry Schiavo.
The problem is that most of the American elite not only want to manage America’s decline, they want to profit off it.
Fr full of detractors. It will only get worse
Clearly, people are angry. If the next president is not a strong reformer who actively seeks to return us to our true roots ... well, that will be when the trouble starts.
It was not a wise choice of words.
However, I resent the media harping on every miscue of the candidates they do not like, and ignoring huge mistakes of their preferred candidates.
I completely agree with that assessment.
100%.
Everything for sale in every store I go in anymore, is imported from China.
We are running a HUGE trade deficit with China. Our country is now 19 trillion dollars in debt, and that is rapidly growing.
Yet Donald Trump is the only person saying America needs to be for America.
How is this possible, and where the heck are all the rest of the “candidates” as far as being for America.
Everyone is building up China.
In both parties. Everyone.
No surprise here. Normal republican voters (non-RINO) saw defeat snatched from the jaws of landslide victories in 2010 and 2014. They are in no mood to allow politicians do that to them again. This election is about jobs, Obamacare, Planned Parenthood and secure borders.
Pretty good article.
I can understand the sense of confusion. Trump is certainly not your garden variety politician. The others try playing by the rules, he threw the rule book at them and laughed.
But I don’t think it’s just the idea that he has a pair of big gold plated brass ones, in a rather disjointed way he’s also putting in words what he average person has been thinking for 20 years. And in plain language, not politispeak.
You don’t hear a well rehearsed speech like Carly has practiced for weeks...you hear it in plain language, in living color and with no apologies.
The author did touch on one point I’ve been hoping Trump would remedy. A serious lack of specifics. I like the general idea, I agree the country is in serious trouble and we need someone who is not owned by the establishment to get up a good head of steam and try to fix it, I get that.
But I’d really like to hear a little more policy and a little less rhetoric.
The main thing people are asking now is how does he plan to do all of this? We’re not getting any specifics. Now in some cases, I agree it’s not ass good idea to broadcast your battle plan. Especially in actual military matters. That didn’t do us a lot of good when Obama anno0unced his “pinpoint airstrikes” well in advance.
But in other areas, what’s the plan?
One thing a lot of people may not be considering is that he doesn’t have to be able to be the best at foreign policy, employment, education etc. Pick a good advisory team and a better implementation team and you don’t have to know squat. They do. And I think he can pick ‘em...how else do you think he put together a company worth $10 billion?
“Trump got away with slandering John McCain for his Vietnam ordeal.”
He lost me there...
When Valerie Jarrett and the MenSeekingMen collaborated to celebrate ‘FUN-employment’ for those who had worked all their lives in the private sector, that was our clue that NOBODY cared about the private sector. They led the 22 MILLION .gov employees to believe FUN-employment was something to be envied.
He’s sooooo right on the PC cr**. It’s making criminals of all of us.
The good news is that Donald Trump will bring it to a halt!
Trump does Anger really good! (pardon my grammar)
He came in with guns blazing, shot up the place and took a MAJOR beat down, brought in the Gatlin Gun, repeated himself and added ammo, and blew even bigger holes and covered more field than before!
The guy is relentless. He is a believer in “attack” and knows his target. He actually CARES if he wins.
He even knows where he can’t win, and he SHOWS UP firing on all cylinders anyway!
Contrary to EVERY other candidate running, he has drilled and grilled us with the reasons WHY he is running, WHAT he will do, and why he is not the-man-for-the-job, but why he is the ONLY man for the job.
Who else does THAT? Who else even meets those basic requirements of campaigning 101, like that? Hell’s bells, they are all weak sisters with silver tongues and great resumes. One wonders if even THEY know wth they are running.
To me this is the difference between a man and a FORCE. Donald is definitely a force.
Most of the rest should be sent to China to live under the same conditions.
And we don't fight wars to create democracy or for humanitarian interests. We fight to close with enemy and to kill him until a political agreement is reached that ends the threat to the United States.
