Pope's climate push is 'raving nonsense' without population control, says top US scientist
The Guardian ^ | 9-24-2015 | Suzanne Goldenberg

One of America’s leading scientists has dismissed as “raving nonsense” the pope’s call for action on climate change – so long as the leader of the world’s 1 billion Catholics rejects the need for population control.

In a commentary in the journal Nature Climate Change, Paul Ehrlich, a senior fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, argues that Pope Francis is simply wrong in trying to fight climate change without also addressing the additional strain on global resources from population rise. “That’s raving nonsense,” Ehrlich told the Guardian. “He is right on some things but he is just dead wrong on that.”

The critique in “Society and the Pope’s encyclical”, part of a special package from scientists on the encyclical, marked a rare note of dissent from scientists and campaigners. Many hope that the pope will drive home his call to action on poverty and the environment in his speech to Congress on Thursday.

Ehrlich, in his Nature Climate Change commentary, accuses Francis of a dangerous flaw in his indictment of consumerism and its effects on the poor and the environment. The pope had fallen for the usual clerical “obsession” with contraception and abortion – when he could have instead broken new ground on the Catholic church’s approaches to women’s reproductive rights and family planning.

The broadside exposes some of the difficulties of embracing a figure such as the pope – for those on the left as well as the right.

Conservative allies of the pope, on issues such as same-sex marriage and abortion, have balked at his denunciation of capitalism and call to action on climate change.

Those thrilled by the pope’s intervention on climate change – and Ehrlich counts himself among them – were troubled by Francis’s refusal to countenance the need to limit population, the

You first Suzanne. You think the world’s population is too high, but you’re unwilling to do the heavy lifting yourself. You want others to die off, while you go on living.

Sorry, grabbed the article writer’s name, not the scientists. Replace Suzanne with Paul.

I don’t know what’s a bigger joke, Paul Ehrlich, or the Guardian calling him a “top scientist”. Ehrlich is a washed up 60 loser who has been wrong about everything including his well known “population bomb”.

“I guess the Pope is not liberal enough for some.”

Actually, I am happy this point was made. While we as a nation are being lectured about our role in ‘climate change’ etc., the facts are that it is population pressures from non-Western countries that have put those most pressure on the ecosystem - while the Church says birth control is a sin. I know there are some here who will agree with that, and I respect your position, but I personally hate abortion - but embrace the right to pre-fertilization contraception.

Good grief, is she still alive?
She's 75 years old now. How long will that old crone live?

Paul Ehrlich has been sucking oxygen for 83 years, and has the temerity to complain about population growth?

Lead the way, Paul. Off yourself now and make room for others. For the environment, you know.

Even a website with a leftist bent like Wikipedia knows that this guy is a fraud. This is the very first line of his Wikipedia profile:

Paul Ralph Ehrlich (born May 29, 1932) is an American biologist, best known for decades of dire predictions about population growth and resource exhaustion that frequently turned out to be false.

LOL.

I always think of Beethoven when it comes to abortion. His family had all kinds of hearing problems and if his mother had had the option of aborting Ludwig, who was NOT the first child, or having contraception before Ludwig was born, then the world would never had had his fabulous music.

He composed his final 9th symphony stone, cold deaf. He heard the music in his brain.

Paul Erlich. The man who's been wrong on absolutely everything in his entire life.

It must really suck to be him.

Why doesn’t this guy start with himself.

Hunger has been in a downtrend, not an uptrend.

Dictators and no new technology cause a lot of that hunger.

Comrade Pope will claim clean hands but will assign one or more of his Comrade Cardinals to lead the environmental charge which will include creating environmental energy shortages, famines, diseases and plagues, mandatory abortions, and state controlled child breeding, etc. All of this to achieve the 6.5 billion person kill off required by the NWO.

I figure the greatest CO2 producer in the USA is the Sierra Club. Their anti logging disposable law suits to sabotage logging by the forest service spread bark beetle throughout the Sierras in the 80’s and caused the destruction of 40% of the high mountain pines.

Their lobbyists fight to remove roads from the forests to “return them to nature” cause HUGE forest fires as there are now few roads to fight the fires steam rolling through all the standing dead trees that they block from being harvested.

Talk about releasing carbon, and CO2. More weight in carbon than all the humans alive in the USA.
