Deputy Bill Myers, 64, was working in Shalimar when he was struck by multiple bullets, including in his head and back.
The suspect, Joel Dixon Smith, was later killed in a hotel shootout with a tactical team, officials said.

I have two cousins who are retired cops. Both have told me the call the hated to get was domestic violence. The most dangerous.
Very sorry this took place.
My thoughts and prayers for his family and associates.
Someone has to do that job. Taking your frustration out on him is pointless.
Any idea who did it?
Sure, and every night they respond to those calls.
The party that called in is just as likely to give you grief after you show up, and the person they called to get protection from is livid.
Yes. Very true.
My Sister lives about a mile from where he was shot.
Both were White.
Thanks for the mention.
Thanks Fiddlstix.

Was the perp who shot him the person he was serving papers to? And yes, RIP and prayers.
= :^)
Brutal story. No winners here. I have no idea about the dead suspects background. Appears he was to hand over property to the Deputy. I’d guess this guy has violence or mental issues in his background. Otherwise maybe he just detonated.
Very sad for the Deputy.
I’ve known several cops, all said domestic violence calls were the ones that worried them the most.
That and small dogs...the little ones will bite quicker than the big ones they all said. And no matter what anyone says, any dog bite HURTS...Trust me on that one I’ve been bit a dozen times. Dogs hate me...I don’t like them a lot either...
The problem is even if you try to break up a fight between husband and wife, to keep her from being hurt, SHE will jump on you in a heartbeat. It makes no sense, he’s usually beat her to hell and back a dozen times, go against him and she’ll go ballistic...go figure...
Had a domestic call turn into a trip to the ER in 1975. Husband beat’s wife, wife call’s SO and I get dispatched. Had to fight with the husband and in the process of putting the cuff’s on him she stick’s a 4 inch kitchen knife into my left lung.
Sorry to hear that. Hope you have had no long term problems from it.
Going in you know the people are unstable. There’s a good chance alcohol or drugs figure in.
They’ve already proven they aren’t stable enough to just wait until the next day and work it out.
Then an officer come to the location, and she decides to prove to “her man” (the one she wanted to kill a few minutes earlier) how much she loves him.
Hope this B got plenty of time for it.
