Microsoft has been pushing Windows 10 for over a year now, and it seems to be "successful."
If there is a permanent Freeper thread discussing the issues of Windows 10, and you are able to provide a link, there is no need to read further.
If they really wanted to alienate their customer base, they'd have written it so it only runs on a PC you bought from Microsoft.
Naw, it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.
And I know that’s true because all the Microsoft shills tell us so.
With Windows 10 Microsoft has attained peak suck. ;)
Forced updates killed it for me.
Similarly there are better OS's than Microsoft's or Apple's.
“Microsoft has been pushing Windows 10 for over a year now, and it seems to be “successful.””
Another day, another one of these. No matter how many installs these guys have, the snarky tech bloggers will say whatever they can to make it seem like no one has. And then proclaim that Microsoft is going out of business tomorrow. Overlooking the fact that it’s on more machines than OSX and Linux combined.
And as for FR? Here is a handy scorecard for the first 100 posts on a typical MS story:
I expect 30 comments from Linux guys screeching about how you need to install Linux Mint.
15 posts of people claiming that Windows 10 made their computers inoperable and they had to buy new ones (i.e. People too stupid to be using a PC)
Someone claiming that Windows 10 installed itself while they were sleeping
The same 6 old dudes bragging about running XP and how only a fool would use anything newer.
“OMG I bought a Mac and I’ve never had an issues EVER!!!”
I have Windows 8.1 on brand new Asus desktop and I love it. It’s better than 7, imo.
This ought to be interesting...
LOL, yep, this is definitely one to bring everybody out of the woodwork....
Good one! (or good many!!!)
Agree. It’s so typical and so boring.
I find Microsoft software great, and even so, when it breaks or is a bitch to install and maintain, I have a good job because of that!
Reminds me of the old Ford/Chevy arguments before Chevy went all Government motors. Perpetual pointlessness. Buy what you want.
After thinking about it for months I decided to bite the bullet and install. Install failed. So much for that. I’m not spending a day fritzing around figuring out their problem; I don’t want it that bad.
Forced updates, pervasive monitoring (spyware), intentional engineering to make turning off all the tracking as difficult as possible (malware), ability to delete or disable any software/hardware remotely (virus), ads built in (adware), installing without your permission (virus). How is Win10 not malware?
~$100 for an SSD and Linux Mint for the desktop is the way to go (run XPP in a VirtualBox). Android for the tab and ha
nd me down smart phones.
What would be a master stroke right now would be a well orchestrated advertising campaign for a Linux Windows alternative. So far it has relied on a passive, word of mouth campaign, but if it came through with a big splash, it would hit Microsoft at its weakest point.
A big part of it would be short, simple, online videos to show people how to use it.
The trick is to find out what people actually do with their Windows system. Not what they *can* do, but the most common things they actually do.
Roger to all those points.
I installed it in an old test machine, and really did enjoy it at first. It’s really speedy on that old c2duo laptop. But...after experiencing the update scheme and the flaming hoops you must jump through to turn off the data vacuum, I hit the brakes on more upgrades in my domain.
Even worse, they’re sending those rotten policies down to win 7. I’m strategizing my future tech now.
I must not be feeling well, but I like Windows 10 just fine.
Yikes.
Can Linux or anything other than Windows run software that reads my personal weather station then sends the data to NOAA, Weather underground and others?
Nope!
W10 works great for Mrs p6 and me.
So did 98, XP, 7, 8, and 8.1.
Right now I’m looking at a Windows tablet to replace my old XP desktop that I pushed as far as it could go. Had a great 10 year or more run with no problems.
“The same 6 old dudes bragging about running XP and how only a fool would use anything newer.”
Hey! Over here! Here I am! Didn’t know I was such an XP dude!
And my webserver/database server is Linux.
And I’m going full Linux next computer.
But I thought your post was pretty funny anyways :)
