Some kids really do need to be permanently institutionalized. I think that it is difficult for some parents to face that reality, but when the kid becomes dangerous, they need to accept it.
My sister works with severely autistic young adults and has shared that young men going through puberty can be very dangerous and aggressive, especially to female members of their family.
There are not institutions.

All through the country, the leftists are closing the institutions, because the developmentally disabled need to be “free.” Here in CA, they have just announced the closure of the last of the institutions, which protected the safety of both the residents and the community. The politicians have no clue about the needs of these folks. If the families can’t care for them, they are forced into “community care homes” at great expense to the taxpayers.
There was a story a couple of years ago about one of these homes where the “caretakers” decided to have some fun by forcing the residents to fight each other. They took cell phone video of the fights. The videos came to light, and the operator of the home responded to the issue by banning cell phones from the property!
