John Lennon was one who assumed the mantle of the privilege that comes with the possession of large sums of money earned in a somewhat undeserved manner.

Charley Manson probably really envied the Beatles.

No kidding. It took fifty years for somebody to get upset about this. He’s dead, Jim!

How was Lennon’s money undeserved? He created something that people were willing to pay for.

Lennon was a young man from a humble working-class background dealing with unfathomable amounts of fame and adulation in the '60s, and not doing a very good job of it. He said and did some dumb things, and before we judge him we should try to imagine how we would have done in his situation in our twenties. He and the other Beatles were not Taylor Swift or Justin Bieber - their fame was in a completely different league that can't be achieved by music stars today.

He grew up, and by the time he was murdered he'd repudiated much of the radicalism of his youth. It's been reported that he'd said he would have voted for Reagan if he'd been an American.

He said it, but he said it years before he was shot

Evidently not so easy he could do it because he was worth 40 million when he died

John Lennon is said to have had a net worth of $800 million.I,personally,have no trouble believing that.And assuming that that figure is in 1980 dollars (which I'll bet is the case) one must remember that in 1980 gas was 50 cents a gallon,a top of the line Mercedes cost $50K and a typical Malibu cliffside mansion cost $500K.

I love the Beatles, really love Lennon’s music on the Beatles. But he was an a-hole, always was. During the height of Beatlemania he was the kind of guy to walk past a random dude at a party and dump a beer over his head and walk away laughing, just because he could get away with picking on others without any consequences. Not surprised at this, it’s totally in his character.

I am not sure what the point is of bringing this up about someone who was murdered 40 years ago.

&&&
I am in favor of bringing it up if it serves to rile up the leftists who love his annoying “Imagine” song.

When I was a young teen in the mid 1960s our NYC radio station played a song “They Are Coming to Take Me Away”. It was supposedly a song about people who were mentally ill. The DJ got fired for playing it. If I had known then that John Lennon mocked disabled people, my huge crush on him and the rest of the Beatles would have dissipated.

It was a novelty supposedly by the lyrics taken literally a song about a dog running off and an angry owner. Or it was a song with thinly veiled wording to get something else cleverly past the censors of the day. The last line in the last verse. This was 1966 I think. They didn't even originally cut a B side for it. I had the 45 and remember the label on B side. They instead cut the song backwards for B side and even the label was spelled backwards.

Look at some of the comedians like Jerry Lewis.

&&&
Jerry Lewis never made fun of disabled people. When he did that schtick with his knees together he was trying to capture the gestures of a toddler, a normal toddler. He did a lot to help the disabled, and he was really hurt to think that some people thought he was mocking them.

Disclosure: I was never a Jerry Lewis fan.

When you consider the selection of women available to him, that relationship is astonishing.

***
Maybe he was really attracted to men; Yoko looked more like a man than a woman.
