My first visit you could go into the circle and touch the stones. I's very cool. It's also a good idea to combine with a visit to Salisbury, whose cathedral is magnificent.
From the (relatively) recent nearby discoveries I have a feeling that this region has a lot of things to tell us that we haven't learned yet.

Yep...we went to the Cathedral too, and walked around the village. I believe we visited Bath the same day as well.

Today, London Walks has a one day rail/bus visit to Stonehenge and Salisbury that is very reasonable.

Not a single dirty hippie to be found.
Once the Eric Cartman Devices were perfected, and made available for export

There is also a stone circle in Cork, Ireland, which the husband and I visited on our honeymoon. . Much smaller than Stonehenge, though.

Unlikely to have anything to do with millions of years ago. There is a possibility that big things had started to happen before the suspected major boloid event that triggered the cooling of the Younger Dryas. Graham Hancock has written several books and has a web site on Underwater mysteries of various sorts.
