King Cobra On the Loose After Escaping Home in Orlando
NBC Miami ^ | Sep 3, 2015

Wildlife officials in Florida say they're searching for an 8-foot-long king cobra snake that escaped from a home in Orlando.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Greg Workman says the snake was reported missing Wednesday by its owner.

Officials say the non-native, venomous snake is green and yellow.

Workman says the snake's owner has the proper permit to keep it as a pet and officials say the owner is an experienced snake handler.

Wildlife officials say they've been canvassing the area looking for the snake. Officials warn residents not to approach the reptile if they see it and instead urge them to contact the agency's alert hotline.

I love snakes, and most orders of reptiles. Hence, the website name and logo.

Plenty of people keep cobras and other venomous snakes as pets. But please, I don’t want to hear about irresponsible snake owners until 1. We know the whole story and 2. Something is done about irresponsible cat owners.

They’re not aggressive, they’re curious. I’ve been around cobras, they’re really laid back unless you hurt them or scare them.

Love that pic. I love how people start jumping up and down on irresponsible snake owners without knowing the whole story. More people have been killed by pet cats than pet snakes.

Could it have been negligence by the owner? Yep. Could it have been something else? Yep. Until the whole story is known, people really should keep their opinions to themselves.

A herper is the active counterpart to a herpee.

This is a photo I took of a king cobra last year. This one was about 13 feet long in PA.
