Disturbing Video Shows Cop Whipping, Kicking His Own K-9 During a Raid
The Free Thought Project ^

Peoria, AZ — When a Peoria resident pulled out her cellphone to record police raiding a neighbor’s home, she never expected to what would happen next.

The woman filming, who wishes to remain anonymous out of fear of police retaliating against her, said she pulled out her phone after she heard police say, “I know you’re in there, come out with your hands up.”

What she saw next was animal abuse.

The K-9 handler lets the dog run to the door and then, for an unknown reason, walks up and whips the dog with his leash. As if the leash strike wasn’t enough unwarranted punishment, the officer then kicked his K-9 partner.

Onlookers reacted in awe after witnessing such cruelty.

“It didn’t seem right to me I have never heard of an officer stomping on a dog or whipping it with a leash,” said the woman. “The dog looks like a puppy and looks terrified of him. I think the officer needs to be disciplined or spoken to at least.”

Although it appeared that the dog was not seriously injured, the woman reported the incident to the local news. The Peoria police department says they are now looking into the incident.

This incident is hardly isolated. Cops being caught on camera beating and abusing their K-9 partners happens fairly often.

In June, a sheriff’s deputy was caught on a hotel surveillance system sadistically beating his own dog.

Last year we reported on a Hammond police officer who was also caught on camera violently abusing his K-9 partner.*

Correction: This report originally stated that the incident happened in Peoria, IL. It has been updated to reflect that it was Peoria, AZ. The Free Thought Project apologizes for the oversight.

This:

“An animal can’t be intimidated into being self-confident.”

Good way to erase $20K of training, right there.

It’s not the dogs that are “tools”, here.

Koehler “housebreaking”

Occasionally, there is a pup who seems determined to relieve himself
inside the house, regardless of how often he has the opportunity to go
outside. This dog may require punishment. Make certain he is equipped
with a collar and piece of line so he can’t avoid correction.
When you discover a mess, move in fast, take him to the place of his
error and hold his head close enough so that he associates his error
with the punishment. Punish him by spanking him with a light strap or
switch. Either one is better than a folded newspaper.
It is important to your future relationship that you do not rush at him
and start swinging before you get hold of him.
When he’s been spanked, take him outside. Chances are, if you are
careful in your feeding and close observation, you will not have to do
much punishing. Be consistent in your handling. To have a pup almost
housebroken and then force him to commit an error by not providing an
opportunity to go outside is very unfair. Careful planning will make
your job easier

Hole digging [aka Drown The Bastard]

HOLE DIGGING
After a dog has dug a few ruinous holes in a lawn or flower bed, it is
almost certain his master has shown him he disapproves, and the dog has
not been particularly impressed by the disapproval. Generally, the first
action of the master is to focus the dog’s attention on the hole that’s
been dug and spank him. Sometimes this procedure accomplishes the
purpose, but there are other ways that seem more effective.
if you come home and find your dog has dug a hole, fill the hole brimful
of water. With the training collar and leash, bring the dog to the hole
and shove his nose into the water; hold him there until he is sure he’s
drowning. If your dog is of any size, you may get all of the action of
a cowboy bull-dogging a steer. Stay with it. I’ve had elderly ladies
who’d had their fill of ruined flower beds dunk some mighty big dogs. A
great many dogs will associate this horrible experience with the hole
they dug. However, to make sure of a permanent impression, fill the
hole with water and repeat the experience the next day, whether the dog
digs any more or not. On the third day, let him watch you dig a hole
and prepare it for a dunking. Class surveys have shown that more than
seventy percent of the dogs who experience this correction for as many
as six consecutive days swear off hole digging. If the master takes the
first sign of repentance as a permanent change, and stops the dunking
after only a couple of days, failure is generally the result.
Another correction, found to be very effective and easier to administer,
is the policy of putting a screw-in stake in the ground adjacent to the
hole, tying the dog to it on about two feet of chain, and leaving him to
meditate for an hour or so. If this is the inevitable result of each
excavation, the dog will eventually turn his energy to other channels.
It is not necessary to “catch the dog in the act” in any of the above
instances of correction. Be consistent in your corrections and your dog
will come to find the smell of freshly dug earth quite repugnant

How to properly lynch your dog:

The only justifiable course is to hold him suspended until he has
neither the strength nor inclination to renew the fight.
When finally it is obvious that he is physically incapable of expressing
his resentment and is lowered to the ground, he will probably stagger
loop-legged for a few steps, vomit once or twice, and roll over on his
side.
The sight of a dog lying, thick-tongued, on his side, is not pleasant,
but do not let it alarm you.

Ah, yes, Herr Koehler.
Pretty sure he came here after WW2.

Those things you describe, as typical of anti-Koehler, are specific situations for incorrigible dog problems.

That is not the method for obedience, which involves learning to sit, down, heel, come, etc.

It worked well for my dogs. Kept my best dog ever well behaved though bold and rambunctious with the 6 week version and helped my last insecure dog become more confident (eg, used to be “afraid of ghosts” such as trash bags and cans). Never had to bother with any “problems” that basic obedience didn’t help.

I really don’t care what Dr. Spock inspired treat method promoters think of it, because that is what standard training has disintegrated into.

Regardless, I know of no professional trainers who use it now and it was abandoned decades ago as ‘barbarism’.
