(CNN)Donald Trump met privately in New York on Tuesday with Javier Palomarez, the CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, CNN has learned.
The meeting took place at Trump's midtown Manhattan office in Trump Tower and lasted more than an hour, Palomarez told CNN. The conversation centered around immigration and the Hispanic electorate.
"It's kind of interesting, the dichotomy between the private Donald Trump and the public Donald Trump. He listened a lot more than he spoke," Palomarez said. "He never once interrupted me."
At one point, Palomarez said Trump joked that "he didn't need the Hispanic vote" as he referenced his high poll numbers.
"But I think we both know that he's recognized that in fact, he does need the Hispanic vote," Palomarez added.
He said Trump earnestly expressed his desire to win over the Hispanic community, saying: "I want it. I feel like I've been mischaracterized and treated unfairly and my name has been slandered to some extent with this audience."
Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks confirmed the meeting took place but did not comment beyond that.

My family has been in California for 120 years. You think I don't know that?
These Hispanics are like me Americans, first, last and always forever. These are the People who are against open borders, and Trump has a very good chance to gain their vote.
When Proposition 187 was first proposed in California, there was 60% support for it among Hispanics. Yet they also went over to the dark side as soon as the Democrats began their campaign of fear.
Skilled jobs, maybe, laborers not so much.
But I do see a lot of them on roofing and lawn keeping jobs and framing jobs for homes.
Nice dodge. The point is made: Trump runs hotels, casinos, and golf courses. That means busboys, cooks, maids, groundskeepers... You think he doesn't employ LOTS of illegals? Really??
See tag line. In Trump, what you see is NOT what you are going to get, good and hard.
Trump is a pure conservative. Always has been. He always will be. He’s a deep conservative thinker.
1) The media prefers Dems, but overall, like all mainstream media, it represents the Uni-party.
2)Ignorance, political “strategery,” or just wishful thinking.
Excuse me, I am not dodging anything. If anything, Trump is doing something that word hurt his bottom line for the sake of the country - that is commendable not contemptible. And if you have evidence Trump knowingly employed illegals against the law, bring the evidence.
I like construction doers rather than lawyer school thinkers.
You’re crazier than a bedbug on crack.
Very well said...
I know you are right!
Well, I’m with you on Cruz being the best choice. On this thread, though, we must ignore Trump history and pretend he’s one of us.
I’m not big on phonies and frauds.
“Well, Im with you on Cruz being the best choice. On this thread, though, we must ignore Trump history and pretend hes one of us.”
You are so right. There are many members of the Cult of Trump. You have to ignore reality and if you don’t worship Master Trump you will be shunned.
Ok, I take it back. ;>)
One thing I like about Trump is that he’s not afraid to directly confront his opponents and take them on point by point. CNN apparently expected that he somehow hates Hispanics to the point that he can’t even sit down and have a conversation with one. Obviously, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Anyone who isn’t an elitist like Jeb Bush, knows that Hispanics cannot be thrilled with all of the millions of illegals flooding their communities, taking jobs from established Hispanics, ruining neighborhoods and bringing crime to their communities. It is only the elite who do not have to rub elbows with them who are blissfully unaware of the many problems that illegals bring with them.
I read those reports and those are not Trump owned facilities.
You are welcomed to go back to Mexico or wherever you can from, el hombre.
Another dodge. Trump had every opportunity to write contracts stipulating that all workers on those projects had to be Americans.
He did not.
Why yes I have, and for jobs pushing a million dollars. And I have stipulated verbally as well that there will be no illegals tolerated on the job, even in subcontractors.
In any case, Trump is running to put a stop to this problem he did not cause and is fighting (at a personal business loss) to stop.
He SAYS he is running to do that, but you don't know that for a fact. He could be lying. I think he is.
I just think it is sour grapes of the old school politics type. This attack may work on career politicians but as you can see has zero impact on Trump supporters.
Oh, "old school," you mean "conservatives," or are playing fast and loose with language just like the Marxists do? Trump was backing Democrats as recently as 2006. Democrats are pathological liars. You think he's completely transformed after a lifetime of habits in just a few years, and after consulting with Bill Clinton immediately prior to announcing, he's now a pro-life, pro-sovereignty, pro-free enterprise, conservative. He's not; he's a demonstrated fascist sleazeball in the casino business, hardly anyone any conservative would regard as a role model.
What you are calling "sour grapes" is merely skepticism that is richly deserved. He'll build a wall all right, and then let just about anybody through it, putting us right back where we are now. That's when all I'll hear from the fools who backed him is a sour wine.
