(CNN)Donald Trump met privately in New York on Tuesday with Javier Palomarez, the CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, CNN has learned.

The meeting took place at Trump's midtown Manhattan office in Trump Tower and lasted more than an hour, Palomarez told CNN. The conversation centered around immigration and the Hispanic electorate.

"It's kind of interesting, the dichotomy between the private Donald Trump and the public Donald Trump. He listened a lot more than he spoke," Palomarez said. "He never once interrupted me."

At one point, Palomarez said Trump joked that "he didn't need the Hispanic vote" as he referenced his high poll numbers.

"But I think we both know that he's recognized that in fact, he does need the Hispanic vote," Palomarez added.

He said Trump earnestly expressed his desire to win over the Hispanic community, saying: "I want it. I feel like I've been mischaracterized and treated unfairly and my name has been slandered to some extent with this audience."

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks confirmed the meeting took place but did not comment beyond that.

Palomeraz probably went in to convince Trump to soften up on Immigration and came out having learned that Trump is 100% right on it.

Then he needs to sue the people who slandered him now. Or accept they will continue to slander him.

It is sickening that the ILLEGAL community has to try to extort support for their lawlessness. Trying to bribe to push back to the status quo of their federal crime.

Stick with it Trump. This fight has to happen to stop the runaway crime and destruction of our sovereignty and the horrid drain on the American taxpayer. Excluding the LEGAL immigrants of course.

Trump repeatedly states he will win the Hispanic vote and he is wise to open a dialogue now.

If he maintains his opposition to illegal immigration, more power to him.

Hispanic civil rights (or was that labor rights?) activist Cesar Chavez was against illegal immigration because it lowered wages for his people. That is how you win Hispanics.

What is the “Hispanic Chamber of Commerce?” Is it anything like the “Caucasian Chamber of Commerce?”

As it was posted in the same earlier article, Trump usually only has like 15 mins visits, so this guy probably went to talk to Trump, but Trump, being Trump, scared this guy, he spent the rest of his time in the men’s room cleaning himself up before he could leave the building....

Two observations/questions: 1) Why is CNN running interference for Jeb Bush?; 2) What makes Sr. Palomarez think that the “Hispanic” voting block is monolithic?

Looks like Trump is in the market for Hispanic supporters.

He dangled a carrot to use his property for their convention; but they want a higher price, some policy agreement, or maybe just some more ego stroking.

Let the negotiations proceed...

Of course, Trump being in the hotel, construction, and golf course businesses, we KNOW that he and his subcontractors ONLY employ American citizens and legal immigrants, right?

In big league construction the jobs probably all go to union members. It is probably the smaller builders that use illegals because no one is looking. I could be wrong but I work near some major construction and I don’t see that many Hispanics on the steel. But I do see a lot of them on roofing and lawn keeping jobs and framing jobs for homes.

They’re “both at fault” because Jorge has some special claim re: illegal immigration?

Nope. Doesn’t fly. Another grievance specialist.

There are lots of Legal Hispanic people who don’t like everyone thinking they came here illegally, especially if they are long term 2nd and 3rd generation Americans.
Many of them don’t consider themselves anything other than Americans. Much like me, a Vet who is the son of a Vet, and my family has been in America over a century.

These Hispanics are like me Americans, first, last and always forever. These are the People who are against open borders, and Trump has a very good chance to gain their vote. All he has to do is make sure they know he only dislikes illegals regardless of where they are from, not anything to do with original country they are from, or their surname.

In Fact Dems may lose votes like they did with Reagan Democrats because we all need jobs, and getting them back from cheap labor express countries is the real deal.

Bottom line the chamber of commerce, whether Mexican or not wants illegals for cheap labor. These people are on the same level as coyotes!
