Windows 10 EULA Questions
email ^ | August 31, 2015 | N/A

According to a email today:

The End User License Agreement (EULA) for Windows 10...is problematic and the opt-out does not ever allow you to fully opt-out. If I understand correctly, they explicitly tell you that they will take your:contacts, WIFI passwords, and content of your files and sell them, at their discretion to others, and will use the info for targeted marketing on your computer. Or any other use they may feel is appropriate as the future unfolds.

I have not downloaded Win 10, so I don't know. Has anyone else read the EULA closely to render an opinion?

Microsoft - Google(The G stands for Government) and several others are ‘CARTELS’ that exploit the public with the help of the political elite - They are not your friend.

As per Linux - I have run a KDE desktop for almost 15 years now - I have to do things on a Win7 box from time-to-time and I can say that there is no longer any reason not to move to Linux.

The only thing that keeps people on the Win platform is inertia or some specialized software that is only available there.

Most cities have Linux groups and meetings where you can find a Linux-head willing to help you install if you aren’t up to it.

I recommend Debian - if you want free - as in freedom - software.

Some good information is at https://wiki.xtronics.com/index.php/Debian_Linux

In 1972 my first personal computer was a UNIVAC 1050-II, not much ferrite-core memory but the hard drives were YUGE!

And this is different from Apple how? Not talking product here just corporate ideology.

Not a whole lot, really. Apple does seem to be better at maintaining security though.

I use Linux. Don't care either way. (grin)

fact of the matter is, once installed, there’s no need to change OS’s. I bought a lap top w/ win 7. Premium. Works fine.

Well, when I wuz a kid my parents wouldn’t put a computer in my bedroom, much less hook it up to the ‘net. Eventually I overcompensated for my earlier times of deprivation.

Here it is from Microsoft themselves:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/Useterms/Retail/Windows/10/UseTerms_Retail_Windows_10_English.htm

Realize you almost need to be a lawyer to understand it, but it is in English... Sorta!

When I was a kid, no one had a bedroom big enough for a computer, and the Net was out in the basketball court.

Well, until one day the ‘net was gone, so we only had a hoop.

The EULA mentions and refers to a Microsoft Privacy Statement. I found it, here:

Yeah but I’ve got a real dilemma.

I’ve got three of the most beautiful white Nigerian models who have promised to marry me if I help them get out of Nigeria. And I don’t know how to choose.

Well, Truth be told, I’d have been happy with the computer in the basement and a video terminal in the bedroom. That way the bedroom wouldn’t have been so warm in the summer.

Teletypes and line printers are VERY noisy. Who would want one of those in a bedroom?

Since I wrote in my post:

I have not downloaded Win 10, so I don't know.

I thought it was obvious I had not, or was this a trick question?

Haven't read the EULA. What I've learned is that opting out of data collection/tracking requires the configuring/disabling of "numerous" Win10 settings. MS doesn't make it easy for the User. In addition to changing settings, I believe disabling the MS Cortana app prevents its unique data collection/tracking capacity.

There are a number of online articles that instruct on how to opt out of MS data collection/tracking.

First computer I ever worked. The Philco Ford 1000.

Cheyenne Mountain Command Center, NORAD, 1976.

We actually had several of these.

Funny thing when I see these drawings and photos, no one ever shows the form feed box of paper going into (and out of) the teletype. Man, TSgt Becker would kill me if I let that box run out!
