Adopt a pitbull, they are so misunderstood. (Vanity)

I know some on FR have a bias against Pit Bulls, but they are the nicest animals on Earth, IMO.

Also I will probably get banned for stating this, but the crazy liberal Huffington Post should be congratulated for their advocacy of pit bulls.

I am a Trump/Cruz leaning conservative, but don't understand the hatred against this breed.

I agree with all you stated.

I would only add that the principles of Responsible Dog Ownership are the same for all dogs,
and unfortunately too many ‘average’ owners are irresponsible regardless of the breed they own.

While the principles are the same, the application of them must be tailored to the specific type/breed or individual dog.

The principles as I see them are:
Maintain, Contain(aka Control) and Socialize.
Applying these principles will keep your dog (and you) out trouble regardless of type/breed.

How the application of the principles need to be tailored can be illustrated by an example...

One method of Control is fencing.
Fencing that may be appropriate for one dog, say a smaller dog,
will not be adequate for a larger dog, it will need to be higher.

GRs have become very popular.
Backyard breeders saw the dollar signs and now they are wrecked.
I have heard many stories of GRs and the equally popular Labs with temperament issues that simply should not *ever* exist in those breeds.
Hereditary thyroid issues [which greeders do not test for] are also often a cause.
Bad amateur breeders can ruin good dogs so fast you would not believe it.

Rottweilers were not bred to “fight and kill”.

Their purpose was herding/drover/cart dogs.

Get your facts straight.

My lab is a sweetheart of a dog. My neighbor’s golden retriever is a sweetie, too. But the pup I had had a mean streak. Hopefully he outgrew it. I am very glad I went with my Sweet Franklin. He is a dear boy — a big 120 pound boy.

Not to mention that “pit bulls”, as if there was such a “breed” are *taught* to fight.

The elephant in the room that NO ONE wants to look at, is WHO are the most common owners of dogs that kill, *regardless of breed*.

It’s the very same group who started up the whole “killer pit/Rott/whatever” thing in the first place.

Nope.

Nobody’s gonna look at that.

I hope so too, for his sake, but locally, the Mennonites are pumping out Labs and GRs like crazy.

*None* of the parents are tested for *anything* and I have personally run into Labs ad GRs that were a menace to society.

Never have I run into a “bad Pit” and believe me, you can’t swing a dead cat around here without hitting one.

Perhaps he was trying to get to something Under the Porch?

A Prized Antique Bone Pile perhaps?

perhaps the house sits over an old indian burial ground....

LOLOL! Perhaps. Whatever, he was most vicious about it. At his cute little size, it was funny, but it was not going to keep being funny. My husband was very mad when he was trying to bite him. It was a BIG overreaction by the pup.

I once encountered a LARGE Pitt Bull...alone....unaccompanied in a nearby downtown area at night a few years ago...

we were walking iun opposite directions ..towards each other....

I changed directions and climbed a concrete Divider...until the dog passed and went on its way.

it stood below me a growled a few times before resuming his walk..and I was very very glad I had taken refuge where I was.

ther there was the time I was walking in a rather unpopulated suburban neighborhood making photographs,

I was looking through the veiwfinder of my camera about to cick the shutter...and I felt something tugging in my pant leg

Yes a large UGLY pit bull had taken a liking to my trousers

I looked...I froze...and the OWNER... several yards away LAUGHED about it...

he called the dog....it left me alone..while he was trying to tell me what a sweet widdo puppy the dog was.

I told him I didnt care HOW dang SWEET IT WAS...etc...etc..

LOL. I’ve been scared by dogs before, of various breeds. It is very good that you have smart, quick instincts.

As a kid I used to hate it when dogs would chase after my pant leg while riding my bike. Why do they do that?

most dogs who chase cars and bikes...are of breeds that were bred to chase vamints...or one kind or another and dont know the difference between a kid on a bike...and a large rat...or a small coyote...

or so the legend goes

Well my pit is a rescue, who had been spaded. I guess they let her go because she was not a fighter but a lover.

She is the joy of my life"

You are as deluded as the idiots who claim Islam is a religion of peace....and if there is any justice...it will be you attacked and not a child or elderly neighbor.
