Two and a half years ago, a man who eats tuna filed a class action lawsuit against Starkist, a tuna company. His allegation was that the company was deliberately under-filling each can by a few tenths of an ounce. That might not make a difference to one consumer making one tuna salad, but would add up over millions of cans. While Starkist doesnt admit fault, the case has been settled.
If youre a resident of the United States and bought at least one five-ounce can of any of these tunas from Starkist between February 19, 2009 and October 31, 2014, youre eligible to file a claim:

When I have to buy fish from a market, I've learned to *smell* it B4 I leave the counter. Fresh fish has no odor.
Even though they sell it as *fresh* .....often it is NOT very fresh.
When we lived on an island...we lived off the land....fishing, crabbing, clamming, lobstering .... good, good times.
Blue crabs are running now ....a wonderful delicacy. Not a difficult to harvest as lobstering.
Sometimes, when I am on the CT shoreline, I know where I can go to *buy off the boat*.
HAHAHAHAHA!
If it’s FREE...it’s for MEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I suppose preppers can get 50$ worth of canned tuna
...*Why do you need that big of a box with 2/3 of it containing nothing but air? Because it makes it look like the consumer is getting much more than he really is. *...
A lot is the *face* time the product gets on the shelf ....manufacturers are very reluctant to give up a quarter of an inch.
It irks me to no end to try and scrape the last bit of Hellman’s out of the bottom of the jar b/c of the big dimple. GRRRRRRRRRR!
...on sale, at a store of their choice.
Starkist.
Now would the Pelosi’s cheat anyone for profit?
Ha hah!
Everything.. Packaging & contents getting smaller but prices keep increasing!
“I PREFER tuna with oil.
Tastes better, doesnt spoil as easily, and is much easier to mix with mayo, or vinigrette for salads.”
I have NEVER bought the tuna in oil. For some reason, my default assumption was to go with tuna packed in water. I don’t know why, but that is how it has always been.
Based on the several FReepers making the same recommendation, I am definitely going to give the oil version a try!
FR really does change lives!
Shhhhh, pipe down! There is no such thing as inflation!
There’s a fine line between cheap tuna and cat food.
Nothing beats fresh atlantic bluefin tuna. I make saltwater fishing tackle and supply a lot of guys who chase tuna, thankfully many, like ALL of them, are willing to barter for fish. YUM!
Definitely spoiled me. Now that I’m about as far as you can get from salt water on the North American Continent, I eat the occasional canned stuff, some fresh caught freshwater fish here and there, but mostly shy from “seafood” because what makes it out here from any coast is usually pretty disappointing.
“Big Tuna” will rue the day they tried to put one over on the 99%!
My cats even turned up their noses and walked away from the tuna in oil.
Always amazed me at the things they are finicky about, but don't think twice about eating moths and beetles....
Its a good deal and if you are not a prepper your family will have free tuna fish sandwiches for a month
The oil has lots of calories and thus has a higher value for prepping.
It also causes diarrhea in large doses.
I would opt for the $50 in tuna. It’s a staple.
Didn’t all the smaller sizes start with the big Walmart grocery boom? Walmart wanted more money so the manufacturers had to make cuts to put their product in Walmart. That’s what I heard.
yeah I heard that one too, I also heard it was "Bush's fault and I am a racist...
All In know is every store in our area has done it including doing it to their own brand name products that are sold in their own stores only and definitely never sold in Wal-Mart.
