Is Trumps movement fascist rather than conservative?
self | dschapin

I am honestly getting a little scared of what I see happening in politics at the moment. Trump seems to be creating a personality cult where his supporters don’t seem to care what they are supporting provided he attacks the people they don’t like. I am starting to feel a little bit like a German citizen in the early 1930’s watching normally rational conservatives start to cultishly follow a strong leader who they thought would fight back and stop the communists.

Seriously if I had to pick a political philosophy for the Trump movement I would say that it is fascism for the following reasons.

1. Trump's support of and past involvement in crony capitalism (such as his support for using the condemnation power of the state to take property for private parties with good government connections).

2. Trump's followers extreme desire for a strong leader and almost mystical belief that he can fix things without caring what his beliefs or idealogy is.

3. Trump's support for a type of nationalism that is starting to push into the overtly rascist and nativist realm.

4. The delight that Trump seems to take in personally demeaning and attempting to destroy anyone who opposes him. And the way that his followers cheer him on in so including supporting him using sexist slurs against Megan Kelly for doing her job as a journalist.

5. Finally, the fact that Trump and his supporter seem to have no concern for the constitution or the separation of powers.

You turn on the news and it’s nothing but bad news. I’m 50+ with a background in office work, now outmoded and back in college. There were a group of young women I was chatting with between classes, and those kids are scared to death. I told them of my experiences of what happens when your job goes poof and of the virtues of keeping up with your hobbies in case you have to turn them into an income stream. They were on the edge of their seats!

Look at what’s happening to people 50+, particularly the men since I think women in general are used to cobbling things together and muddling through in uncertain times.

I can’t say I’ve run into the sentiment of which you speak, because most of what has typified fellow Trump supporters that I’ve run into has been optimism if also a certain amount of glee at the discomfort of our self-appointed “betters”. The haters I’ve run into in general have been on the other side (see NationalReview.com).

Trump is the other side of the pendulum swing that obama started.

Trump’s easy exposure of RINOs is what is making the media buzz around him interesting.

However, repeating blatantly-liberal accusations against him such as in the OP is just specious at best.

The Stab-In-the-Back Theory is a very popular tactic for fascists in politics now. But they haven’t come for everyone, yet. They will, and no amount of “we are Germans, too” will stop them.

To see exactly what you describe....it has been filmed
Watched the (1940 movie-IIRC) — THE MORTAL STORM

Good movie with Jimmy Stewart, Robert Young, and many other faces long sense forgotten.

This last seen before o-king took his throne the first time.. Speak of frightening....it’s all there on screen waiting your review.

Donald, OTOH is the matinee on a Saturday afternoon.....mild in its comparison. And exciting to watch just as exciting as Buster Crabe (sp?)

Yeah, for now perhaps. But he doesn’t exactly have a conservative record. Did he really change, or is he just saying stuff? I’m not sure.

That was a load of nothing. The enumerated points you made could be said of every candidate on both sides it was so vague.

It would be something to see an historic conservative stand up that outshines him at least on conservative matters. But for now, he is a mirror showing the Uniparty’s RINO wing’s liberal nature to the electorate.

And that’s all I’m saying on the matter, other than it is a demonstration of base (liberal) character to hurl baseless Godwinite accusations.

I’m assuming that my “leftist talking points” refers to my saying the words, “differing opinion”? That is leftist??? In your mind, conservatives all have to have identical thoughts and opinions? We are supposed to be lemmings? Or is it only when someone “feels differently” (see what I did there?) about somehting you post....
Although I did not agree with everything the OP wrote, I certainly wouldn’t call him out as a leftist. And for me to be called one based on your very odd reply is comical.

I hadn’t searched that deeply into his profile, but such behavior seems to say “sleeper agent”.

I’ve only encountered those on the left using the phrase “differing opinion”, yes. It’s a favorite of theirs, especially when putting their moral relativism on display and implying that there is no definite good and evil, only a difference of opinion.

Aside from the fact that lemmings do not commit mass suicide by instinct while meeting large and violent bodies of water when migrating (the Disney filmmakers chased them into the water), implying that conservatives siding with God and traditional morals is self-destructive behavior or even groupthink is not very constructive in terms of argument, with all due respect.

I said in another post that if one produces evidence that is true, I would agree with it. As for rhetoric that is typically leftist in nature (especially when it aligns with that which Saul Alinsky advised to use), I can only describe it as I see it.

Thank you for the lesson on Lemmings. It was supposed to be a metaphore. Something I am sure you will align with demoncrats as well.

Other than that, your responses are humorous at best. On that note, it is time for me to make dinner. Pork chops and brussel sprouts on The Green Egg. Lefties who hate God cook on Green Eggs?

Anyway, it has been an interesting conversation. Enjoy your evening!

I do wish idiots like you would quit saying FASCISM when you want to say NAZISM!
Hitler was a NAZI, not a FASCIST! Mussolini was a FASCIST, not a NAZI.
They are two separate types of government.
True they do share some commonality, but they are DIFFERENT.
If you want to see a FASCIST, just look at a picture of OBUNGHOLE when he has his nose in the air and compare it to MUSSOLINI, perfect match.
Please go back to DU where you came from, you are not needed on FR.

The emphasis on Trump as a leader borders on a cult of personality which is a feature of fascism.

I generally prefer fascists over communists because 1) They are usually nationalists, 2) They usually dress better than commies and take more baths and 3) They are usually not as murderous as communists.

Not to say that I like fascism. Just, the way things are going, and given the quality of the electorate, we are probably going end up some even more Authoritarian government no matter which way we go.

"-Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people." - Ferris Bueller
