ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- The late IndyCar driver Justin Wilson saved six lives Tuesday by donating his organs, his brother said on Twitter.

The 37-year-old Wilson died Monday night from a head injury suffered when a piece of debris struck him during a race the previous day at Pocono Raceway. A British driver who lived in Colorado, Wilson was hit in the head by piece of debris from another car. Wilson's car veered into an interior wall at the track, and he was swiftly taken by helicopter to a hospital in Allentown in critical condition.

I hope this selfless act by Justin is some comfort to the grieving Wilson family.

May God welcome him home and bless all the recipients of his organs.

Good for him. His tragedy can become [several] someone else’s miracle.

He was a good driver and a good guy.

Yes, and Planned Parenthood resents that anyone other than them is supplying organs.

Whenever I read about someone suffering a head injury, I know they will be declared dead within a couple of days. In almost all cases, head injury sufferers never survive more than a couple of days because they’re perfect candidates for harvesting organs. I’ll never sign a card to donate my organs because I don’t want to be prematurely declared brain dead so that my organs can be harvested. Many of these head injury cases may have survived if their organs were not in demand.

Truck teams to remember IndyCar driver: According to his brother, the organs from IndyCar Series Justin Wilson were donated to six different people. Stefan Wilson revealed the news on Twitter on Tuesday, a day after his brother died from a head injury he sustained at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. Wilson, 37, was hit in the helmet by debris from Sage Karam's car. Karam had crashed while leading and pieces of his car were strewn across the track. A bouncing piece of debris was in the path of Wilson's car and after impact, his car swerved to the left and hit the inside wall. NASCAR Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series teams will run decals this weekend honoring Wilson (The Sprint Cup Series is off). Wilson's death was the first in the IndyCar Series since Dan Wheldon died in the final race of the 2011 season. Sunday's race at Sonoma is the final race of the 2015 season. With the offseason just a week away, there's plenty of time for conversations about what the series can do to increase protection for drivers' heads. Wilson was killed because his head was exposed with the IndyCar Series' open-cockpit design.(Yahoo Sports)(8-25-2015)
