And the three freezers full of veggies won’t hurt, either. As long as the power stays on anyhow... Only one load of firewood in so far, though. Time to get on that.

Invest in some canning supplies and can those vegetables. Then you won't have to concern yourself with whether the freezer has power or not.

My old house gets paid off this coming week, which is a real blessing. That puts us in pretty good shape. The only thing that could get us is taxes, and that takes a few years to play out. Besides, if things get that bad everyone will be being evicted. At that point most bets are off anyway.

We’ve got hundreds of quarts canned already too. :-)

A big chunk of what we have in the freezers is sweet corn. If the power goes off we know how to turn it all into corn meal real quick.

If everything gets real bad, the entire financial structure will collapse and barter will be the coin of the realm.

I hear ya.

Some of us have a head start. We’ve been living on next to nothing for a long, long time.

It depends on the cause. If it is simply grid down, cash is still king until it turns into an extended outage.

“If it really were a SHTF scenario, money would be practically worthless so withdrawing it from the bank would be a waste of time.”

Absolutely incorrect. For a short time, cash will be KING. Start with a few basic assumptions:

1. Banks shut down so you can’t get cash.
2. Credit systems shut down so you can’t charge stuff.
3. People are stupid.

#3 is the key. There will be a few days when some businesses will try and stay open, on a cash-only basis. For those few days, people will still believe cash has buying power. Bear in mind that the stocks will FLY off the shelves (like milk and bread before a snowstorm) but there will be some products that you may be able to get your hands on with cash - batteries, first aid/medicines, dog food, soap, etc. Use your cash to immediately purchase these non-bread/milk items while everyone else is fighting over that crap. There will even be gas stations open on a cash only basis where you can top off your cans.

It won’t be long before people realize cash is useless, but having an immediate supply on hand would actually be quite helpful.

Thank you. He most definitely has. May He bless you, also. The biggest blessing is His Word, of which I'll share a few passages.

In Matthew 5:38-42 Jesus tells us,
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."

Psalm 50:10-11 tells us that,
"for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine."
EVERYTHING that you or I 'own' is, in reality, nothing but a 'loan' from God. NOTHING is ours, it is all HIS! Trying to keep His possessions if He does not will it, is not wise and will fail spectacularly! If He decides to let you 'keep' whatever possessions, praise God! If He decides to take His possessions and 'loan' them to someone else, praise God! Job was a very wealthy and righteous man, yet God allowed satan to take EVERYTHING from him. He ended up living at the dump, using broken pottery shards to scrape the pus out of his wounds! He could do NOTHING to prevent this from happening.

God does not give us gifts because we are entitled to them, He gives us possessions because He CHOOSES to. What we 'have' is to be used for His glory, not for ours. If Jesus was able to feed 5,000 men, plus their kids and women folk with five loaves and two fish, don't you think He can provide for whom He chooses? Likewise, in Exodus 16, we know that those who greedily gathered too much manna, for the next day, found it smelling and full of maggots in the morning.

God wants us to depend on Him, not ourselves! Mark 10:13-16 tells of Jesus rebuking the disciples for chasing little children away.
"People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. .
Why are we to be 'child-like'? A child is innocent (as opposed to sinless), MOSTLY obeys his/her parents and DEPENDENDS upon their parents, NOT themselves! THAT is what Jesus wants from us! Planning for survival when the SHTF, independent from God, is PURE FOLLY! When the SHTF is when we ABSOLUTELY MUST depend on God over ourselves!

No matter how you prepare, if He doesn't CHOOSE to let you keep something, you ain't gonna keep it. Maybe the gospel of Chris! tells you something different, but I'll choose to believe the Word of Jesus, the Christ!

No doubt. I’ve seen many stock market crashes. Can’t remember it ever affecting my life - personally - very much.

In the long term, the economy does suffer. But no riots in the streets. No bread lines. No ‘collapse’.

The average person has no clue that it’s even happened.

No. Who is going to evict them?
Also the landlords will want to keep people in them who formerly paid to keep the squatters out. They can trust the former renter payers over people that never lived there and paid rent to at least keep the place from burning down.

The traders and hedge funds, using computers, simply buy and sell huge blocks of stocks in microseconds, and that’s one of the reasons we’ve seen these huge spikes and big drops.

If you want to find out how far down the rabbit hole these fraudulent markets have gone look up Eric Scott Hunsader.
