I absolutely don’t buy that. A generation is 5 or 6 election cycles. That is a very long time politically and in the minds of the voters. Maybe its true for the Dims, but I don’t think for the Pubs. More importantly, I wouldn’t write Carson off THIS cycle as Trump’s running mate (I don’t think Carson has a chance at POTUS though). Wouldn’t be my choice, but it is still a good one. And, if Trump were to choose Carson, I think he could win. I still prefer Cruz as POTUS or VP, but am not counting on it.

My first choice for VP is T. Cruz. Since D. Trump hasn't held political office, he'll a VP who is or has been a Senator or governor.
I’m agreeing with you a lot this evening. If Trump is the nominee, he could never pick a veep without governing experience. Not Carson, not Fiorina.
Unfortunately, although Dr Carson is an honorable decent man with great ability and character, 0bama has ginned up such racial animus, he has destroyed the chance for any black candidate other than himself, certainly anyone who is not an extreme far leftist crypto communist.
I see a place for Ben Carson in any 2016 Republican administration. A likely position would be Surgeon General.
