Well here is my decision. I Love It! Ok remember this first episode is slow because it shows the beginning of the virus. Not like everyone will turn together within 1 second. The first zombie was the girlfriend, the second zombie was in the park, and the last zombie was the drug dealer. There must be a gradual build up to the story from beginning of the virus spreading then more victim of the virus. It may sound silly but I think it is good to watch so at least we can get some ideals in how to survive in a city when things collapse.

Now what have I learned so far:

DRUGS and ZOMBIES DO NOT MIX!

I had watched a few episodes of TWD prior and I \kept dozing on when this new series came on. Mostly because I can’t relate to the pretty boy junkie and his plight. The parent’s don’t seem like good actors and they don’t seem to relate to each other very well.

I also do not like the scenery. We left LA and will not go back: the graffiti, the concrete waterways, the ugly neighborhoods, everything was cold and trashed. The music was too sharp. But I am interested in watching the collapse of the city.

I was thinking while watching TWD how nice the woods and country roads look and the soothing colors of the homes in Alexandria, and how much I like and admire the characters in that show. I mean, Carol and her casseroles and Daryl and his goodness only partly hidden by his greasy hair.

TWD started out strong and still does not abate.Last season’s finale was just as good, second time around.

I think also this show is going for diversity. The main characters are Mexican, even though the mom is blond, the son looks mixed, and we can see that her boyfriend is some kind of Hispanic.

Well, it is reflection of who is left in LA, I suppose. To me the show seems to want to appeal to the Latino demographic.Slice of life or pandering?

It would have been more appealing to me if the cast was of my old neighborhood in north county LA Santa Clarita, a republican stronghold, salt of the earth people, who celebrate the 4th of July with parades and have an annual rodeo week. I could see them trying to keep the hordes from coming up the pass on I5 (once a natural detriment) and forming a community defense and survival.

Have you read the comic book spoilers? I did after last season.

Not bad but at this point I don’t care which characters are Walker chow. None of them grabbed my interest out the gate like TWD did.

So the obnoxious drug addict son wearing the super faggoty shirt has a girlfriend? That makes no sense.

LOL! I think you were supposed do deduce that he ended up wearing his girlfriends shirt at some point after shooting up together. But yeah, it came off looking silly.

I'm wondering if they are trying to imply that the virus started with junkies? Bad heroin?

Also, it looks like the folks in L.A. will figure out that the virus is airborne quicker than the folks in Georgia did.

The dialogue was awful.

“Come away my angel”

Who talks like that?

No real sympathy for any of the characters.

Strangely enough the only character I kind of like is the junkie.

Probably because he’s figuring things out so much quicker than the others and he’s got some kind of weird Johnny Depp swag going on.

The actors on TWD are miles better.

I wasn’t expecting much anyway but it was a real letdown.

Maybe it will improve as it goes on.

Actually, he's a Maori from New Zealand. I looked up the actors and like TWD, many of the leads are foreigners. The daughter is Australian and the junky son is a Brit.

Good point. Remember when the kid asked the drug dealer what did he put in the drug?

I wonder if it was a government experiment that went wrong.

No. He was just trying to figure out what happened with his girlfriend chomping on a body.

The dealer was afraid he had talked to the cops and was planning on getting rid of him. That’s all.

Oh. And the episode sucked too.

Characters sucked. The direction(who directed?) was like one of those shows on prime time. CSI? Something...The characters weren’t natural. Dialogue wasn’t natural. Just stupid. I might watch the next one just to see if it may get better. One more chance. If the second one is anything close to this one then I’m done.

Okay. I get it.

TWD was written for us to root for the characters as they battle zombies. It was captivating half-way through Season 1, Episode 1.

FTWD was written for zombies who demand equal time as we root for them to devour these dysfunctional characters.

If FTWD goes beyond 6 episodes, it better improve significantly or I won’t be going with it. I found myself going ‘Yeah! Zombies! Finally!” in the last 15 minutes.

Thanks for the ping!

So did the drug dealer in the tunnel bite the mom? It looked to me like he did so that means mom is going to turn sometime soon.

LOL!

Okay...husband was off today, so we watched FTWD this morning.

It held our interest. We liked the slow buildup to the realization that’s just beginning to dawn, and the ending was a good one.

So far the only character we really like is Travis. The mom is all right, and the actor playing Nick does a good job, but wow, is he feminine-looking. The coming reality is going to slap that attitude right out of the daughter (Alicia?).

Watching this show makes me glad I don’t live in L.A. And it looks like Travis is driving T-Dog’s truck. I like old pickups, though.
