I might suggest accumulating some cash on hand. (paper money in small bills $20s, 10s, 5s and 1s...
When the SHTF, the banks will not have any to disburse, or may close for several weeks..
Credit cards will likely not be accepted...

Thank you for the ping.
For the privileged few that have wealth to protect, gold and silver outside the banking system is a must.
And that is why I am convinced that after the crash and before their "reset", the ownership, transfer, possession, sale, storage, and "hoarding" of gold will again be made illegal, just as it was in 1933 - by Exective Order.
And those that resist will swiftly be made an example of, just as before.

I have gold but it’s performance is abysmal. Seriously. What will it take to get moving again - an alien invasion? I am on the verge of just selling it all, except there really is nothing else to invest in.

Way too much bullish sentiment in gold still. From ads on TV from well known actors to signs in the local region that says “We buy gold”.

Executive Order 13603 (signed by the Preezy 3/16/2012) gives himself the power to sieze any person, property or thing that is deemed “necessary for national security”.
Prepping is several states is punishable under color of law (look at the water fights in CO and CA, and being off-grid is illegal in Miami-Dade), even thought DHS and FEMA have pamphelts and packets out telling us how to do it...

That Executive Order was written to be so broad that EVERYTHING of value can be siezed or commandeered if Obama says so.
It is frightening. And it IS tyranny.
