TOPEKA — The Kansas Federation of College Republicans recently voted unanimously to adopt a resolution calling for repeal of the state's death penalty law, a sign that capital punishment may be on its last legs in the state.

“More young conservatives like myself recognize that our broken and fallible system of capital punishment in no way matches up with our conservative values,” Dalton Glasscock, a Wichita State University student and chairman of the federation, said in a news release Thursday.

"By ending the death penalty, Kansas has an opportunity to promote a culture of life and fiscal responsibility. As Republicans — whether young or old — this is a smart reform that we should support,” he said.

The certainty of DNA evidence supports the death penalty.

Let me guess. There are a lot of catholics in that organization?

I am not passionate about the death penalty. I am, however, soberly in support of it. It is too bad but it is sometimes the supreme justice and nothing less is quite right. It offers closure for victims and disallows the perp from tormenting his fellow prisoners.

Have they taken a stance in opposition of abortion on demand? Abortion of babies by fallible tests indicating “defects”?

Why would they bother? Kansas hasn’t executed anyone in 50 years.

I would hope that along with such a mentality goes the spirit of obligation to the victims and also for self imposed care for such societal dregs. I don’t like other do-gooders taking my sweat and labor to satisfy their whims under the guise of government.

It matches my Christian values just fine. Just sentences are a key part in many victims being able to genuinely forgive their transgressors.

And if it helps just one Christian genuinely forgive their transgressor, it’s worth it.

I’ll change my mind about my support for capital punishment on the day the Almighty rescinds or revises Genesis chapter nine.

Until then, nope.

These kids are ignoramuses, and college ain’t helping ‘em much.

In Kansas, the death penalty really means life in prison anyway.

Just another example of the liberal idiocy being ingrained (or imbrained?) to our students/children.

Dealth sentences should be carried out after a maximum of two appeals within a 90 day period after sentencing. Stop the seemingly endless appeals that go on for years! ....Taxpayers should not be paying for people who have committed crimes deserving death for 25+ years (CA) or for their lifetimes.

They might be Republicans but they are not conservatives.

Increasingly, the Republicans do not represent conservative values. They are merely Democrats-lite, & their main interests are purely self-serving.

Conservatives need to abandon the Republican party & create a Conservative party.

These are the Republicans that get people like Sebelius elected.

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to but as I understand it, the Glasscock family has had long involvement in the "country club" wing of the Republican Party. That was definitely the group who would rather have someone of Sebelius' ilk than a conservative Republican.
